Thirteen

*Peggy's P.O.V.*

It's been a sad couple of days for us all. Some more than others. I stayed with Ashley for around 30 minutes before Phillips ushered us out. Ashley hasn't been to work since that day and I'm worried about her. I know she's strong but this could be the one thing that breaks her. Neither me or Howard want that to happen.

"Hey Carter" I heard someone call from the side. I looked up to see Howard jogging towards me.

"Something wrong, Stark?" I asked turning to him.

"No. Not really. I just wanted to ask have you seen Ashley anywhere, ya know, since the other day?" Everyone had asked me about Ashley but I just told them now wasn't the right time.

"No I haven't. Have you?"

"Nope" he shook his head. "I'm worried about her Carter"

"Me too."

"Ya think we should go find her?" He asked before something behind him caught my eye.

"Well if we do I win already" I nodded behind him and he turned round to see Ashley walking into the office. I walked ahead of Howard to get to Ashley first as she was walking towards us. Everyone's eyes were on her but she did her best to ignore them.

"Hey" She said as she stood in front of me and Howard. We just stood there looking at her not exchanging any words. She looked tired and her hair was a little messy. Her uniform looked perfect though. "What?" She asked.

"Nothing. It's just a surprise to see you here" Howard said. "After, ya know, what happened" I nudged Howard to shut up about it as it was a touching subject for Ashley. I could tell as she put her head down. "oh Ashley i'm sorry I just-"

"It's fine, Howard. I've got to get use to people talking about it. I'm fine. Really I'm fine." Howard nodded and Ashley flashed a weak smile. That's the first time I've seen her smile since the incident.

"Where've you been?" I asked and immediately regretting it.

"Well ya know. Staying in my house, eating nothing and crying over losing my two best friends. But apart from that absolutely nothing" Her face now looked sad and she looked down at her hands.

"Do you want something to eat now?" Howard asked.

"No. Just, just give me some work" Howard looked to me and I nodded for him to leave. So he did. I smiled at Ashley before leading her to a table of paperwork. We looked at the work, well she did I mainly looked to her to make sure she was okay being back here. "Will you stop looking at me it's creeping me out a little" She looked up from some paper she was reading so she was looking at me. I nodded and went back to my paper. But I placed my down on the table and sighed.

"Are you sure you're okay Ashley?" I asked owning a annoyed groan from Ashley. "I just worry about you"

"Well don't, okay? Unlike some I'm stood here and I'm alive. I'm fine" She sighed turning back to some more paper.

"You said you didn't eat. Would you like something now?" I asked changing the subject.

"Nope. Totally fine"

"Are you sure cause I could get Howard to-"

"What part of I'm totally fine do you not understand?" She asked harshly. I whispered a sorry and went back to the paperwork. I then heard Ashley sigh next to me. "Peggy, I'm sorry. I shouldn't have snapped like that."

"No. It's okay. I may not understand the pain but I'll always be here to help you through it. Even if it means listening to you shout at me." She smiled at me before walking over to me and giving me a hug. I hugged her tightly and I knew she really needed this hug.

"Thank you Peggy. Not just for this but, for everything you've done for me. I can't thank you enough" I smiled and moved some of her hair out of her face.

"You're welcome" We both smiled again before returning back to the paperwork. A lot was about Hydra and some stuff about Hitler.

"Hey girls" I heard Howard say as he walked in between us.

"Hey" Ashley smiled making me smile again.

"So Ashley" Howard started making Ashley turn to him. "Me and Phillips found something that you may like." He said and she nodded urging him on. "We found it in Rogers' locker but-"

"What is it?" She asked and he stayed silent. "What did you find, Howard?" Howard sighed and grabbed something out of his pocket. He seemed to pull out some dog tags. He held them up to me and Ashley could see them.

"Are those-"

"Steve's dog tags?" Ashley finished for me and Howard nodded.

"Yep. We found them whilst we cleaned it out. Phillips wanted to get rid of them but I knew a better place for it to go" He smiled and held it out so Ashley could take it.

"You want me to have them?" She asked.

Howard nodded. "You already have Barnes'. You deserve Steve's too" He smiled before Ashley slowly took the dog tags and traced her fingers over his name. She smiled then looked up to Howard before giving him a kiss on the cheek. I laughed as he blushed hard.

"Thank you Howard"

"You're welcome Gomez" He winked at her making her hit him playfully in the arm. This was the Ashley we knew and loved.

"Agent Carter" I heard Phillips shout behind me making me turn sharply to him. "Come with me" I turned to Ashley and she mouthed go so I smiled and went with Phillips.

*Ashley's P.O.V.*

To be honest it felt good to have Steve's dog tags as well as Bucky's. I smiled and placed the dog tags around my neck right near Bucky's. I held them together in my hand and a tear escaped my eye. I will never forget these two.

After a while Howard left leaving me with paperwork. I bit my lip and decided to take some to my desk to sort out there. I put the dog tags underneath my uniform and proceeded to take a pile of paperwork. But as I turned I knocked into someone making the paper go everywhere.

"Oh my god I am so sorry" I said as I quickly started to pick up the papers.

"It's fine" A gruff voice said in front of me. I stopped and looked up to see a black guy with a nice looking face and a black coat on. I smiled at him before we both stood up and he gave me some papers back.

"Thank you"

"You're welcome Ms Gomez" He smiled before he walked past me. I narrowed my eyes and looked behind me to see him walk away. For some reason I felt a weird sense on this guy.

"Hey Ashley." I turned back to see Howard walking towards me. "Who's that guy?" He asked pointing behind me.

"oh I don't-" I stopped mid sentence as when i looked back to see the guy, he wasn't there. Hmm, weird. "know" I finished my sentence before looking back to Howard.

"Oh Okay. Well Phillips wanted to see you, if that's okay"

"Yeah that's fine" I placed the paperwork on my desk before we both walked to see what Phillips wanted.

A.N I'm sorry for any confusing guys but wattpad deleted this chapter making me have to write it up again. I will admit there isn't has much sad Ashley as I liked as I just wanted to make her soon stronger but still a little sad. I'm sorry if this is short but I've had busy weekend with seeing The Backstreet Boys last night (they were amazing) and seeing The Winter Soldier today. I recommend TWS to anyone as it's fucking awesome and the Bucky feels are so high it's great.

Now as you can see I added a bit of Andrew Fury to introduce him a little. He will be in it more as the transformation thing is in the next chapter.
