rileys pov

you're a disgrace.

how could you be so stupid?!

i don't even want to see you.

get out of this house and don't come back.

it's needless to say my parents were mad. well, mad would be the understatement of the year, they were fuming, indignant. and they kicked me out.

so i did what i had to do.

i texted the only person i could trust with something like this. basically the only other person who knows.

it's stupid, i know. parents kick me out, i text my ex boyfriend. but no one else knows i'm pregnant and after seeing how my parents reacted i'm not planning on telling anyone for a while.

james texted back after a few seconds, with; yeah, come right over, so i do. his house isn't too far away.

his Mom answers the door and when she sees me she smiles warmly, creases appearing appearing under her deep brown eyes. i try to smile back.

"hey, riley, how are you?" she says happily, pulling me into a hug. yeah, so she definitely knows. why else would she hug the girl who broke up with her son?

"hey, mrs tordjman," i smile. "i'm doing okay. with all that's going on... james told you, right?"

she purses her lips and nods. "yeah... he did. i'm guessing you're here to talk to him?"

i nod slightly.

"i'll go get him," she says. "come on in, make yourself at home."

i'm gonna have to. it's not like i have an actual home to go to right now.

when i walk in, james's youngest sister brooklyn runs up to me immediately, her brown curls bouncing. "riley!" she screams, hugging me. i can't help but laugh at that.

it's funny that james's family always loved me more than he loved me.

"hey, brooklyn," i smile. "long time no see."

"too long," brooklyn agrees. "are you and james back together?" she asks hopefully.

"no, were not," i tell her. before she can say anything james comes running down the stairs.

"hey," he breathes out.

"hey," i reply. he looks at me sympathetically. god, i hate that look. i hate people feeling sorry for me. i mean, yeah, my parents kicked me out, i'm pregnant, i have no where to live. but i don't need pity. pity isn't going to help anything.

"i'm pretty sure yous are back together," brooklyn says, raising an eyebrow and crossing her arms. "even i can tell."

james glares at her. "get lost, brook," he says. "me and riley need to talk."

"fine," she says, rolling her eyes and walking away.

"come on, we'll go outside," james mutters. i follow him to his back garden and we sit on the old swingset, in awkward silence.

"so," james says eventually. "your parents. how bad?"

"very," i sigh. "i'm not going back to that house even if i had the choice."

"well, you can stay here for as long as you want," james says. "and i'm moving into that apartment soon, you can stay there—"

"you don't have to do that."

"yes, i do," he insists. "we're having a baby together, riley."

"i never said we would do it together," i tell him. "were not together anymore. can't you get that into your head?"

"well, i'm sorry for trying to help," james snaps.

"i never asked you to help," i mutter.

"really? then why are you here?"

i glare at him. what a jerk. no wonder i broke up with him.

"okay, i admit it. i need a tiny bit of help. just a tiny bit. only until i can get on my feet," i sigh. "so if you could stop being an asshole for 5 minutes it would be marvellous."

"i was trying to be nice," james says. "but if you keep lashing out on me this won't work out well at all."

i glare at him before giving in. "fine, i'm sorry, i'm just so stressed. i don't know," i admit. "are you sure your Mom will let me stay here?"

"of course she will," james assures me.

james's pov

when we go back inside, riley and my sisters start talking in the living room so i go to talk to Mom in the kitchen about riley staying here for a while.

"hey, Mom," i say, keeping my voice down so no one else is listening. "can i talk to you a second?"

"of course," Mom replies. "what's up?"

"rileys parents didn't take it well," i sigh. "they kicked her out."

"oh, that's awful," Mom says, frowning. "that poor girl."

"i know. sooo... can she stay here a few days? just until i move out, then she can stay at my place," i ask.

"oh, honey, of course she can," mom tells me. "tell her she's welcome here anytime."

"thanks, mama," i smile. "i'll tell her."
