I gently rubbed my eyelids revealing my big Green eyes as the loud sound of the train horn filled my ears. I lifted my soft, grey, belted coat over my shoulders and slipped my arms in the sleeves as I pulled my matching grey beret over brown, curly hair. I picked up my luggage and swung my scarf around my neck. I took a few steps out of the train into the cold air of New York,NY.

I squinted my eyes trying to keep the freezing air out. Cold. My nose began to get runny and you can see the warm air leaves my chattering teeth. I leaned over the sidewalk and waved my arms around to catch a cab drivers attention. A cab pulled over and I threw my stuff in the back seat and rested my shoulders on the seat in the cab.

I asked the cab driver to take me to my new home my grandmother lend it to me because I'll be attending Juilliard. I'm nineteen now and I'm attending Juilliard for college on Monday. I've entered the music program and I couldn't be more excited!!

We arrived at the house it was so big and the thought of being all alone in such a big place, scared me. The orange fall leaves swayed off the branches of the tree onto the freshly cut grass.

I paid the cab driver and walked up the steps onto the front porch. I unlocked the door and slightly twisted the cold silver doorknob. I took a few steps inside the house and the floorboards creaked as I took off my coat and beret and placed them on the coat stand. The home already had furniture and carpets I pulled my luggage on the couch and sat down aside it as I pulled my phone out of my pocket to call my grandmother which, lived nearby.

"Grandma? I'm at the house." I said as I cleared my throat.

"I'll come by in a minute, sweetie." Her voice was gentle and assuring.

"Okay, see you then. Love you." I spoke in excitement.

"Love you too." She chuckled in her soft old lady voice.

I stood up to take a look around the house. I walked up by the fireplace and realized the picture frames sitting on the shelf, there was a photo of grandma and grandpa when they were younger. Grandpa died in a car accident a few years back, I really miss the way he smelled when he gave me hugs, it was like warm mint tea. His smile fit big and bright on his faint wrinkled skin.

I heard mellow knocking at the door. I opened the door and grandma walked in. Her hug was calm as she stroked my hair behind my ear. She looked so youthful, I'm glad to see she's in good shape. We walked over to the couch and sat down as I leaned my head on my hand and rested my elbow on a beige throw pillow.

"Your grandfather loved this home it was the first house we moved into when we first got married." You could tell she was having a flashback bye her frown.

"I miss him too." I said as I released a long sigh.

"I'm sorry Gaby..." Hearing her say my name made me suddenly relaxed and made me feel confident about this fresh start.

"Don't be, Thank you grandma you've always been there for me. And this house... like where do I begin, I know this house means a lot to you and I will take care of it." I patted her back.

"Awwe thank you. So... enough about me,the neighbors are very nice people the neighborhood is very calm. Since you have never been to this house I'll give you a short tour.

She showed me around the house. I was so used to our small house back in Washington. All those summers in the fields out in the countryside. Homesick?

We walked to the back porch as the sun began to set. The lanterns were lit and you could hear the crickets chirping and the wind whistling through the leaves.

"I have to get home Gaby, hope you have a good time at Juilliard on Monday!"She said cheerfully.

"Thanks grandma, bye."I said as I gave her a goodbye hug.

When she left I went inside the house and decided to unpack. I suddenly realized there was a room grandma hadn't shown to me. The shelves were dusty and the paint was old... It needed to be fixed. Who am I kidding it's late I should get to bed. I put my hair in a messy bun and slipped into my pj's. I laid on the bed in the bedroom.

I tossed and turned. Restless. Under the glowing light of the moon. Couldn't stop thinking about Juilliard, what if I'm not good enough what if they don't like me!? At least I have one more day before Juilliard to clear my mind. Who says a fresh start could hurt anyway?

I slowly was rocked to sleep by the sound of the tree branches hitting my window...
