I awakened to see that I had an audience; insect beings standing and walking on two legs surrounded my cage.

Their lifeless eyes stared at me; I stared out at them with bewildered eyes.

They must be sentient to create buildings and spacecraft; what did they want with the likes of me?

They removed me from the cage and allowed me to walk around; I had no idea where I was.

The air felt warm and I was able to breathe; their sun cast red light and peculiar maroon shadows.

The plants covering the ground had thin black leaves; the trees had large triangular black leaves.

Flowers planted in round plots had dark cyan and magenta petals; the dirt had a dark orange tint.

A city full of crystal pyramids dominated the landscape; crystal pathways connected the buildings.

The pumpkin colored sky had maroon clouds that gleamed with red edges; two moons hung in this psychedelic sky.

One moon was considerably larger than the other; the large moon was peppered with craters.

A smaller, dimmer sun peeked above the horizon; the companion star was much further away.

The insect creatures gave me water and food; the food was green and resembled beans.

I walked among flowers and trees; the odor was sweet and compelling.

Suddenly, a loud chirping sound interrupted my idyllic peace; the sky soon filled with strange saucers-shaped objects.

White-hot beams of light shot out of the objects; crystal building shattered with a loud shrilling sound.

The insect creatures ran for cover; I stood frozen with fear.

An iris opened near me; I watched a crystalline contraption rise from the ground.

An insect creature mounted a platform connected to the contraption; the machine moved around and began shooting out intense red beams of collimated light.

The beams struck the saucers with devastating results; destruction reigned down from the heavens.

A white beam from a saucer struck the insect creature; its exoskeleton exploded in a hail of green blood.

I jumped onto the platform and examined the controls; all that I could see was two handles.

I moved the handles to aim the weapon; the alien sky was filled with many careening targets.

I squeezed both handles to fire the weapon; a saucer that I had aimed at exploded and crashed.

More targets came into my view; I aimed at each of them and squeezed the handles.

They exploded and fell from the sky; more and more of them flew above me.

I continued to aim and fire; how long I would remain alive is in doubt.

I was helping insect creatures fight a war; my survival instincts triumphed over reason.

Was I dreaming or is this real; both sweet dreams and nightmares are made of this.
