"You gotta have some faith in me. In you. In us. We'll show this world that we may be small, but we can do anything as long as we do it together! Up top!" As soon as the brunette knew it, the blonde raised his hand flat in the air. Expecting it to move more, she stood frozen. But it simply hovered in the air. She stared blankly at his palm as the boy sighed and grabbed her wrist, slapping their hands together. "Yeahahah! See, Shizume?"
"We're making progress already." The boy beamed brightly. Shizume pulled on a shaky smile in return, still a bit frightened from the sudden movements of earlier.
Shizume had only just met this boy and Yukio was acting like they've been friends their whole lives. But truly, she had just felt dearly bad that this boy had to search so low for a friend. It wouldn't be too awful stepping up and befriending him, right?
"S-So how do you even plan on climbing this so-called l-ladder to the cool kids?.. More specifically, a 5th grader?" Shizume inquired, looking at the male for a response. But as he opened his mouth, a bell replaced his words.
"Rats!" Yukio kicked the woodchips and frowned. "Hmph.. I'll see you tomorrow, right?"
"Yeah!.. I-I'll be right here." The brunette nodded, confirming her words as she ran her fingers through her hair repeatedly.
"Coolio! Peace out, Shi-Shi." Yukio already had a nickname for her? She blinked and took it all in as the boy ran toward the glass doors, skateboard under his arm. She smiled to herself. Maybe she wouldn't have to force a friendship. Maybe this would be her first genuine friend..
Her smile grew.

"Dad! Dad!! I made the most wonderful friend today!" Shizume spoke with excitement as she bursted into the house, her brothers running about in their fits of laughter as they shoved each other to the ground, fighting.
"Shizume, sweetheart, that's great!" Her father emerged with a tired smile. "Tell me about them, kiddo."
"Well, he's got blond hair and blue eyes, he skateboards- I think.. And he's in my grade! His name is Yukio." Shizume explained.
"Ohohoh, does our lil' sis have a booooyfriendddd?" One of her oldest brothers piped up and butted into the conversation, causing the others to lean in.
"Oooooooooo~" They all teased, grinning as Shizume pouted.
"He is not my boyfriend! I just met him today!" She crossed her arms tightly.
"I bet you just wanna kiiisss him! Mwah mwah mwah!" Another brother exclaimed, making kissing noises as he turned around and put his hands on his back, rubbing them up and down to appear he was kissing someone. The other siblings began to giggle as Shizume grew frustrated.
"Stop it! He isn't my boyfriend. He's my friend and that's it! Either way, I'm in 4th grade!"
"Oh yeah? Well I'm in the 7th grade. BOOM!" The youngest brother retorted at their sister as she grumbled.
"Alright, alright, leave your sister alone." Her dad stepped in and broke the teasing apart, the brothers running out of the room to resume their play fighting. "He sounds like a very nice boy, Shizume. I'm glad you made a friend." A warm smile crossed his face as Shizume brightened up.
"Thank you, dad, and I promise you!"
"This'll be a friend I keep."

Shoe bottoms clicking against the sidewalk as she walked, Shizume was once again walking to school. From behind her, she hears the familiar sounds of wheels squeaking. She turns to see Yukio pushing along on his skateboard, slowing down as he approached and got off to walk alongside her.
