The warm water on my skin feels utterly divine, and I sigh in content. Sinking further into the marble tub, I tilt my head back to get my hair wet. I then reach for a vial of lavender-colored oil, and pour it graciously over my head. A small, exhaled moan escapes my mouth as the liquid trickles down over my neck and shoulders, and I rub it into my scalp.
“I swear, you have new sets of sketches every time I come in here!” Loki calls from just outside the washroom. I hear the soft rustle of papers shortly after he ceases speaking, and have to keep from growling.
“Loki,” I call back with a sarcastic sweetness, bordering annoyance. “Someday very soon, I will successfully teach you not to snoop!”
He chuckles, and his footsteps draw closer to the doorway. My heart jumps a little, and I watch his shadow cross the threshold carefully. Yet I know that while Loki may still act like a young child, he would never intrude on my privacy. I’d like to think it’s out of common courtesy, but I am also proud to admit that he might be afraid of what could happen if he attempted such a thing. “Perhaps you shouldn’t leave things out if you don’t want me to pry. You know I’m a rather curious person.” He suggests lightly.
I scoff, dipping my hair in the water again to rinse the strands. “Sure, curious, and I don’t mean that in the intellectual sort of way.”
“Hurtful!” Loki replies, laughter clear in his voice. “I see the results of today have left you a little... feisty.” The evocative tone of that last word has heat flooding to my face. Smartly, I don’t reply, simply settle back to let the last of the warmth and oil seep into my pores. “Sing, dear Brita. I miss your melodies.” Loki says softly with a slight affection, yet still with question.
I shift in the tub, running my fingers over the smoothness of my legs. “There will be enough entertainment at dinner, Loki.” I say, avoiding the request primarily out of embarrassment.
“Fair enough.” Loki agrees. “At least give me a few riddles so that I don’t lose my mind while waiting.”
I laugh quietly. “What makes you think you have to wait for me?”
His footsteps retreat back further into my room. “Can a gentleman not simply wish to escort his dear maiden?”
That gets me to smile, and I shake my head though I know he cannot see. “You and your silver tongue are plotting, my Prince, but I will play along… for now.
“What can one not keep, two hold, and three destory?”
I can almost picture the look of contemplation on his face, his long, elegant fingers cradling his jaw, the other hand on his knee as he perches at the end of my bed. His deep emerald eyes would glimmer as he sorts out my riddle.
“A secret?” Loki guesses all too soon.
I huff. “You’re no fun, you know that?”
“Then make it a challenge for me, O Mysterious Dame!”
I swirl the water under my fingertips, thinking and biting my bottom lip a little. “It takes one world to separate them, otherwise they are in separable. What are they?”
I imagine the smirk on his face as he sits back a little and crosses his arms. Moments pass in silence, and I grow bored with the rapidly-cooling bath water. I stand and grab a large, thick cloth from beside the bath, and eagerly wrap it around my body. Securing it under my armpits, I walk in front of a mirror and pick up a comb, pulling it through my damp, glossy strands of hair with ease.
Loki answers finally when I’m drying my body, and swapping the cloth for an equally thick, dress-like robe. “Clever trick, lítill refur, but I think the correct answer is lips.”
