David

David tried to hide his pain, bury it down like he had been doing since his father died. He couldn't do it! This was too big to hide from. David felt pain, anger, shame, and fear from his father's words.

Unable to contain the unstable bundle of emotions he had been carrying for year, David burst. He sprang to his feet, tears streaming down his face.

"Ever since you died, I've been closing myself off. I couldn't get over it! I didn't talk to anyone! I never made any real, permanent friends! I hid from the world in my writing! I tried really hard in school trying to make you proud! I used logic on everything trying to honor your advice! I looked hard at everything doing what you said! Everything I did was me trying to make you proud! I didn't fail you! I failed myself! I didn't live a real life! Now, I'm done letting you take over me life! I'm going to be me and let got of you. Now, leave me alone!" David screamed, letting everything out. He had been bottling up everything since his father died. Now, it all came pouring out in a flood of words.

The ghost of his father smiled a true smile at David and mouthed thank you, then he evaporated into mist. The golden veins in the walls stopped glowing, leaving David breathing heavily in the dark. When the lights came back, a doorway of stone led out of the room.

David dried his tears and walked through, feeling almost free. He had reached the center of the maze.
