Chapter Eight

     I stand in one spot, trying to catch my breath, only ending up stumbling. I would have fallen if Rocky hadn't run up to me, catching me.

     "Dude, what was that?!" he asked, amazed, confused, and frightened. I watch as people emerge from the destroyed remains of the center of town, the looks on their faces matching the emotions I was getting from Rocky.

     "I- I'm not entirely sure myself......" Whatever that was, it's not like it's something that has happened before. I look around, crushed to see that almost everything is gone. My home..... I grew up here........ I have to help fix it. I stand on my feet again, looking down all the roads, eventually arriving at my road. Everything will be okay, I'll just go get my fami- The harsh reality sets in. Our house was devastated. My family would have been home.... I take off running, pushing through the rubble

     "MOM! DAD! ARI?!" Nothing. The silence hits me like a tsunami of emotion. I begin to cry, not knowing what else to do. Suddenly, I am hit with a wave of what can only be described as a drowsiness, even though it was obvious I wasn't tired. It was as if all the energy was being drained from my body. I collapse, losing consciousness.

     I wake up in my bed, the smell of eggs and bacon wafting through the house. I stretch, sitting up in bed, my dragon pajamas wrinkled, my hair matted to my face. I hop down from my bed, which, by the way, is far too high up for my stubby legs. Yawning, I make my way downstairs. Mom is in the kitchen, cooking, still in her pajamas as well. I call out to her, but she doesn't react. Just as I approach her, I begin to fall.
