Hours had passed and Alfie still wasn't here. I checked my phone multiple times, but there were no notifications. Where was he?
I sighed, standing up and looking out the window. I was starting to feel really bad about turning Lip down now. I mean, it would've only been as friends. So it wasn't really a big deal, right?
I grabbed my phone and pulled up Lip's contact, typing 'hey, Alfie canceled, still wanna catch that movie? (:'
I pressed send after contemplating it for a minute, and my phone buzzed right away. I thought it was Lip replying, but it was Alfie.
The text read, "hey, sorry I can't come over today. Something came up."
My stomach dropped. It wasn't like him to cancel, what was going on?
"Oh ok" I replied, hitting send.
I sat my phone on the window sill, staring up at the sky and watching as new clouds formed new shapes. Come on, Lip...
"Caroline! There's someone at the door for you!"
I quickly slipped my phone into the butt pocket of my jeans and ran down the stairs, jumping off the last one. I found my mom smiling at the person in the doorway and I walked over to see who it was.
"Who is it- oh hey," I smiled.
Lip stood in the doorway with his hands in his pockets, a small smile playing on his lips. I bit my lip before stepping to the side and gesturing for him to come into the house. He stepped inside, pulling off his jacket and draping it over his arm. I closed the door behind him.
"I got your text," he said, turning to face me, "he canceled on you huh?"
I frowned as I remembered Alfie's text, and nodded to answer Lip's question.
"Well, let's turn that frown upside down," he smiled, pulling me into a hug.
I hugged him back tightly, breathing in the mixture of cologne and cigarettes on his clothes. It made me feel at ease. "Thank you."
"Wanna go somewhere?" He held me at shoulder length, "like, a walk or something?"
I nodded, "sure, let me get some shoes."
