Peter walked in chemistry class to see Y/N and Michelle at the back of the class, giggling and writing in a notebook together as they often did. He tried to ignore the pang of jealous he felt deep in his stomach and reluctantly walked over to his designated seat directly in front of theirs.
"Hi Peter," Y/N said between giggles as Michelle leaned over and whispered in her ear.
"Hi Y/N." Peter mumbled, sliding further down in his seat and picking at the fraying edge of his notebook. She laughed loudly again and Peter turned around quickly. "Can you guys be quiet?"
"Whoa Peter," MJ said. "Somebody's jealous."
"Jealous? What? I'm not jealous. Don't be ridiculous! What would I even be jealous of?"
Peter looked up to be met with Y/N raising her eyebrows and staring at him in amusement. Michelle, unbothered, had already gone back to her book. He cursed himself inwardly for always managing to make such a fool of himself in front of Y/N.
Y/N reached over and rubbed Peter's arm gently, giving him a sympathetic smile. "Relax." She murmured. "MJ is just teasing you." Peter felt a hot blush creeping up his neck and he nodded and turned around abruptly so she wouldn't see his face turning deep red. Despite the feeling he got when Y/N's hand made contact with his arm, he still felt angry. It was clear to him that something was going on between her and Michelle, even if neither of them would admit it. He knew in his heart that Y/N didn't feel the same way as him, and she had every right to date whomever she wanted, but he couldn't help but feel heartbroken. He had loved her for his entire life and known her since they were children, and every moment with her felt like pure magic. The thought that she could turn around and love somebody else hurt him deeply.

Over the next few days, Peter's feelings of anguish and betrayal only grew as he watched Michelle and Y/N seem to get closer and closer. At lunch one day, he watched Y/N grab onto Michelle's hand as the two of them laughed at some inside joke that he wasn't a part of. He had had enough. Peter stood up angrily, knocking over the orange juice on his tray and watching in horror as it splashed all over Y/N's shirt and lap. He stumbled over the bench where he was sitting. "I- I'm sorry about that, Y/N. But I have to go." He attempted to remain stoic and stormed away, trying not to allow his guilt from spilling sticky orange juice all over his crush to stop him.
Y/N looked over at Michelle and Ned in shock while Ned leaned over and attempted to pat her shirt dry with a napkin.
"Did that just happen?" Y/N asked incredulously. "What is his problem?"
Ned sighed. He knew fully well why Peter was acting the way that he was, but he knew it wasn't his place to reveal Peter's secret.
"Maybe you should just talk to him." Ned suggested gently.
"I agree." Michelle nodded. "He's clearly upset about something." She squeezed Y/N's hand gently. Y/N looked down at their intertwined hands and then at the orange juice stain on her shirt and pants and suddenly a picture began to take place.
Peter had always acted slightly strangely around her, ever since they were children. When their hands brushed together or Y/N gave him a compliment, his demeanour would change immediately. She and MJ had been growing closer in the past few weeks, but it was only because she had confessed to Michelle her feelings about Peter and after revealing that secret to her, the two of them had become closer friends immediately. Y/N wondered if Peter was jealous because her friendship with Michelle had been growing so strong over the past few weeks. She knew it couldn't be because he felt the same way about her. He wasn't jealous, as much as she wished he was.
Y/N blinked suddenly at the feeling of Ned shaking her shoulder and looked at him in surprise. He and MJ were both looking at her knowingly.
"Talk to him." Ned said firmly. "He gets out of robotics lab at 1:10."
Y/N nodded reluctantly. "Okay."

Peter trudged out of robotics lab later that day, feeling drained after all the emotional turmoil he had put himself through over Y/N and Michelle's relationship. After what happened during lunch, Peter proceeded to sit in a stall in the bathroom and cry before forcing himself to go to robotics lab and realizing he needed to accept that Y/N didn't love him back and that she and MJ would probably be together forever and he would be alone. He knew deep down he was being dramatic but he didn't care.
Peter was pulled out of his depressing thoughts when he heard someone clear their throat. He looked up to see Y/N leaning against the lockers across from him, arms crossed, and wearing an atrocious outfit that she had clearly been forced to take from the lost and found. She was wearing an oddly familiar pair of oversized pink Hello Kitty pyjama pants and a gigantic Midtown High grey sweatshirt that ended halfway down her thighs. He would've laughed if the expression on her face wasn't so serious.
"Y-Y/N... Hi..." Peter stuttered nervously.
"Hi, Peter." She said flatly.
"I- I like your outfit." He said, trying not to let the smile that threatened to break through show on his face. She watched him, a slow smile forming on her face as she looked down at herself. Y/N couldn't help but laugh. She did look ridiculous.
"This is your fault, you know." She murmured, a small smirk on her face. Peter's face dropped.
"I know, Y/N. And I'm so sorry. And I'm sorry I left."
"Why did you?" She asked gently. "Leave, I mean."
Peter took a step closer to her. "Well, I mean... I don't know. I guess the whole thing with you and Michelle just caught me off guard."
Y/N raised her eyebrows, surprised that her theory had proven correct. "Me... and Michelle? What do you mean?" She prodded.
"You and Michelle... dating. You're dating, right?"
Y/N laughed. "No, Peter. Don't you think I would have told you that we were dating if we were? You're my best friend."
"I thought she was your new best friend." He mumbled, looking down at his shoes. Y/N walked towards Peter slowly and reached up, adjusting the collar of his shirt poking out of his sweater. Peter looked back at her shyly.
"No one could ever replace you," Y/N said, her voice barely above a whisper.
"Really?" He asked, his voice hoarse.
"Peter, you're..." Y/N paused, running her hands down his chest. "You're everything to me."
His breath hitched. Peter couldn't believe this was really happening. He gripped onto the large sweater she was wearing and tugged her closer to him.
"I love you, Peter." She whispered.
"You- like- as a friend?" He asked, preparing for disappointment.
"No, Peter," Y/N looked up at him. "Like a lot more than that."
Peter was sure that she could hear his heart racing in his chest. He thought it was going to explode.
Y/N's hands curled around the material of his blue sweater and she felt her heart stop. Did he feel the same way?
"Peter, I understand if-"
Peter interrupted Y/N's doubts by pressing his lips hard against hers and cupping her face. Her eyes widened in surprise at Peter's confidence before she melted into him, closing her eyes and standing on her tiptoes in order to get closer to him.
Surprising Y/N again, Peter leaned down, not breaking the kiss, and grabbed Y/N's thighs, picking her up and pushing her against a locker. Y/N moaned into Peter's mouth and he pulled back to look at her in awe. She immediately got hot, her face flushing.
"I'm sorry, I just..."
"No, it was- that was amazing," he gushed. "I just can't believe this is happening. I love you!" Peter said excitedly, his voice getting louder. Y/N giggled, pressing her palm to his mouth.
"Be quiet." She laughed. "And put me down, we could get caught at any second."
Peter reluctantly bent down and dropped her gently onto the ground before standing back up. He took both of Y/N's hands and looked down at her lovingly.
"So... Are you going to last period?" She asked tentatively, swinging their hands and stepping closer to him.
"Well with the way you're looking at me, I'm guessing that you want me to say no." Peter said, laughing. Y/N nodded, squeezing his hands.
"We have a Spanish quiz, though." He said.
"Peter," she whined. "we can take the Spanish quiz tomorrow. Please?"
Peter looked down at her, in all her lost-and-found clothing clad glory, he cursed himself for even considering passing up the opportunity to spend the rest of his day with such a beautiful girl. And she was his.
"Fine. I mean, yes. Absolutely."
She grinned, beginning to walk backwards down the hall and tugging on his hand. "C'mon, before Mrs. Hernandez catches us."
Peter followed her happily down the hallway and out the doors into the sunshine.
