The cooks were doing the prep work for the breakfast rush we usually got.
More waiters and waitresses entered, at 7:00, they were all here. Seth was sitting at a bar stool, fidgeting with his hands, I watched him for a while before going over to him. "What're you so nervous about?" I asked, with a tone of concern in my voice.
"Oh!" He said, looking up at me and immediately straightening his posture. "Nothing. I'm fine."
I gave a look of disbelief, "Seth, you can tell me. You know that."
"I know but I don't like seeming, you know, like the nervous type.." his voiced trailed as hungry old people entered the restaurant.
His eyes followed them and then shot back to me.
"I gotta get this! I'll tell you later" he said before getting up and walking over to their table.
I watched him, and took his place in the stool.
It was a bit early to be considered breakfast, so not many people came in for another 30 to 40 minutes. I went back into the kitchen and asked "hey, can i get some pancakes?"
"Coming right up." Our head chef said. He was the coolest and didn't mind me totally not paying for food. He knew I couldn't afford to eat out everyday.
"I'll bring them out to you in ten." He said, wiping his hands with a towel.
"Okay. Be at the bar."
I walked out the kitchen and sat back at the bar.
Seth came over to me and asked "Do you need a suit for tonight?"
Shit. I forgot about that.
"Yeah, actually." I nodded.
"We can go buy one? We can just go straight to a store after work.. and you can get ready at my house?" He said, his voice was nervous, but it seemed like he was trying to hide that so I didn't acknowledge that.
"Good idea." I gave him a grateful smile. "Thanks again for inviting me."
"No problem!"
He bent down and kissed my cheek and hurried off.
I put my hand on my cheek and asked myself. What the fuck
I can't believe my best friend has feelings for me. It's not mutual.
I sighed quietly and waited for my food.
The chef came out and pushed the plate infront of me. "Cheer up, ro.  What's got you down?" He asked.
His green eyes looked into mine, filled with optimism.
"Not much. Can't talk about it here." I said, grabbing my fork and cutting into the food.
"You sure? If not, just text me during the break or something. Hate to see you down." He raised an eyebrow and turned to walk off.
"Okay."
He disappeared back into the kitchen.
I slowly ate my food, taking time to chew each and every piece.
While I was eating I was thinking about how I could put Seth down easily, I don't want a lifetime of friendship to be ruined because of one date. I mean, he really really likes me.
I finished my food and forced myself out of my thoughts. I picked up the empty plate and took it back to the dish wash station.
I walked out and watched as people flooded in for breakfast.
The same boy, who wore the old leather jacket, blue jeans and black boots came in. His hair kept by a black beanie. I wanted to serve him.
He walked toward a empty booth and slouched into the chair.
I strolled over to him, hoping he'd be the one to notice me.
"Hi, I'm Roman. I'll be your server today." I said, smiling at him.
His blue eyes peered out of his blonde bangs and gave me a friendly smile. "Hi. I remember you from the elevator.."
"Oh Yea! Hi Dean. Glad you're here. Can I get you started with drinks?" My heart pounded.
"Um yea. Just water." He said, playing with a napkin in his hands.
"Okay, be out in a second." I nodded.
