SUE WAS GIGGLING. She was just eight that time. She really loved the snow. Sue had no idea that someone was watching her. The boy was too fascinated to move.
He saw the girl's family move on the house across theirs recently. She fancied the girl from then on. He observes her everyday. He knows it's creepy. He doesn't care, though. You don't see much beauty in a trashy life like his. Besides, even if he tried stopping himself, he can't help but gaze at her.
Sue twirled and twirled around and played with the snow. She knows that no one would care if she gets ill. She can take care of herself. She learned that if you don't take care of yourself, no one would. At a young age, she realized that the world is cruel. Your only friend is yourself. She has friends in school, of course. Sue radiates a warm aura. Everyone who she talks to never walk away without a smile on his/her face. In fact, the only ones who don't appreciate her are her parents and sister. But even so, she never told anyone of her family issue. She doesn't trust people easily.
Meanwhile, the boy didn't notice another kid - Carter - sneak stealthily behind him. He was an African-American lad who you would expect to be bullied. But it was the total opposite, actually. He was the vile bully, always picking on other kids because of his miserable life. He scooped up a fair amount of snow and molded it into a snowball. Carter aimed straight for the boy's head. He gathered all the strength he could muster and hurled it.
The lad's head collided with the tree he was hiding behind because of the tremendous force that hit his head. It made an audible thump enough for Sue to hear. He landed on the ground in a rather unflattering way. It almost knocked the wind out of him. Fortunately, managed to get a grip on consciousness. His eyes were still closed. The wave of nausea was just too overwhelming for him.
Sue heard a thump and walked towards its source cautious not to make any noise. She crouched behind the tree and peeped a little so that she can she what was going on. Sue noticed a lanky boy lying on the ground. His eyes were closed but one could tell that he's still conscious. Then her stormy grey eyes slowly found its way to a husky lad standing a few meters away, smirking. His skin was that of a dark brown hue. He seemed so proud and satisfied of what he did. Was he the one who caused the boy to almost pass out? Sue wasn't the judgemental type, but it looks like it.
The lad propped himself up on his elbows. Everything was blurry and shaky. He tried to sit up, but his dizziness kept him down. He managed to murmur, "Why?"
Carter heard this. "You don't have to know, you creep. Besides, your creepiness is enough."
You just don't understand. You just don't.
His vision gradually came back. The retreating figure of the bully was enough for him to feel relieved. His relief was soon replaced with horror because he heard a very familiar voice.
"Oh my gosh! Are you okay?" She sat beside him searching anxiously for any injuries.
His throat constricted. Does she know already? I wish she doesn't. I am so dead. He just stared blankly at her. He didn't know how to react. Should he be glad that he finally noticed her or be worried because she may or may not have found out his little obsession on her?
Sue's lips contorted into a frown. "I'm sorry. It was such a stupid question. Of course you're not fine." She elevated his head on her lap. "I have no idea what to do. I'm really, really sorry." Sue felt ashamed of herself. She can't even help the poor fellow.
Finally, after a few moments of struggling, he managed to choke out a few words. "I'm okay. Thanks." Truth is, he never thought someone would even care for him. Especially her. She was so angelic and yet she interacts with low people like him.
"Are you sure?"
"Yep." He wants to stay in his place forever. Locking eyes with her, feeling her warmth.
Sue smiled at him.
Whoa. If it's even possible, she looked even prettier.
She started talking but her words turned into unintelligible murmurs. Her beautiful smile slowly faded.
Harry bolted up from his bed. His forehead was covered with beads of sweat. He sighed and collapsed back down. That was a nice dream. The last time he dreamt of her, it was a horrendous nightmare. Is this some kind of sign? It was also eons ago since he had that nightmare. That nightmare he knows he induced. Oh, Sue. I wish I can change everything and go back to being friends with you. Or maybe even something more than that. He had changed a lot. Physically and emotionally. His hair turned dark brown and curly. He had grown more mature. He wonders if Sue still looks the same. Would she recognise me?
