ONE YEAR LATER

Aizawa Shōta's POV

Birds chirped as I strolled around my neighborhood, briefly stopping by places inhabited by stray cats. I walk to Sayaka's house, where I see her walking down the side walk, probably looking for me since we usually walk to school together.
I catch up to her slow paced walking, and lay a hand on her head to alert of of my presence.
Her head whips to face me and she plasters a plastic smile on her face.

"Hey Shōta-kun..!" I backtrack at the tone of voice from the person. I remove my hand from Sayaka's head, and reposition it with a firm grip on her shoulder.
I look at her and bluntly ask, "What's wrong?" Sayaka blinked at me for second before failing at trying to be her cheerful self.
"It's nothing! I swear.." She trails off, looking off to the side. I furrow my eyebrows in concern, since she seemed perfectly normal the other day.
I tighten my grip on her shoulder.

"Tell me what's wrong." I command. She turned her face away from mine, and her the corners of her lips tugged into a frown.
"It's nothing, really Shōta." She muttered once again, while looking at the ground. I sighed and loosed my grip on her, dropping my hand back down to my side.
The walk was mostly silent, save for the cars rushing back past us and people quietly talking on the subway.
"I know I seem aloof at times Sayaka, but you can talk to me if you need to." I state blankly, when we were only down the road from the school.
I could feel my emotionless tone melt away a bit at the end, turning into concern.
I don't even bother turning around to see if she gained the information, since we were already at the school gates.

Still Aizawa's POV

After school, I packed my things up and waited for Sayaka at her locker. I saw her walking down the stairs with Hizashi, making small talk. I felt something weigh my stomach down as I see her smile and laugh at his jokes.
I look away at her and start to scold myself for this behavior.
Relationships were unnecessary and fake in high school, they would only distract me, and we would eventually break up anyways so it wouldn't matter in the first place. it would be too much work to maintain one too, and I also didn't want to end up like my parents.

They approach me and the locker, and Hizashi loudly greets me. I roll my eyes at his overall personality and see Sayaka grabbing her things. (I have no idea how that crap works in japan lololololololol)
We leave the school, Hizashi babbling, Sayaka listening to his comments, and me intergecting at some points. Sayaka halts while we pass a park and looks over. I notice this and asked her if she wanted to go to the park.
She nodded. "Yeah, I have to tell you guys something anyways.."

We enter the park, seeing small children running around, just getting out of their elementry schools or daycares. We approach a round picnic table and set our stuff down and relax. Hizashi finally asks what I've been wondering all day. "So.. what's up with you, Saya?" She blinks at us and looks down. "S-so um," She starts. I see her anxiously pick at her nails and look anywhere but Hizashi and I, as if to distract her own thoughts.

"Um, Guys... I'm Moving to America." She states with a grimace. "Wh- What?" Hizashi stutters. I shake my head in disbelief and raked my hand through my hair as thoughts began running through my head. Sayaka shakes her head as she scratches her forehead.
"I'm sorry guys.. The moving truck is coming to my house in a week, then I'll be on the plane to New York at 7am the next day." She whispers while looking at the picnic table in dismay. Hizashi and I take a moment to comprehend this, him giving off a quiet, uncharacteristic vibe, whilst I kept a stotic face on.

"Why..?" my voice is soft and I look at her.
"My dad found a better job as a journalist for the New York Times... Its better for us since we aren't really financially stable."
She sighs heavily as she wraps her arms around me in a hug. I embrace her back awkwardly, already used to her clinginess, but not good at human contact whatsoever.
My eyes widen as another force was pummled onto us as Hizashi tackles us and joins the hug.
"YO STop mAKING ME BEComE THE THIRD WHEEL!!" He shrieks playfully. I roll my eyes and rest my chin on Sayaka's shoulder. We all sit in silence and absorb - what felt like - our final moments together.
The sun shined brightly, and birds sang around us, leaving us all in blissful peace as the world continued around us.
