This part picks up right when Silena sacrifices herself.
-----I took the chariot leading from the front lines. I hoped that this would be enough to convince Clarisse to not be so stubborn. You might have called me crazy, but I had to do it. For Charlie. "Ares!" I yelled, trying to sound like Clarisse.
A dozen chariots followed my lead as we charged into battle. "The children of Ares!" Annabeth yelled, sounding relieved. "How did Rachel know?"
No one answered as I led the charge wearing a boar's head to disguise myself and Clarisse's red armor. I held the spear which Clarisse named Maimer. I looked at the drakon and hesitated slightly. But I didn't need to think. I immediately charged. "Ares, to me!" I yelled failing at sounding like Clarisse.
The chariots circled the drakon as we tried to kill it. It only broke the lances we tried to use against it. I stood in front of the Drakon, trying to stab its face. "You can do it!" Percy yelled. "A child of Ares is destined to kill it!"
I glanced at Percy. If only I were a daughter of Ares. But it didn't matter. I was doing it for Charlie. I was doing it for my friends. I couldn't stand to betray them anymore. I did the single dumbest thing I probably could have ever done. I charged the drakon. I was scared, but I had to do it. "ARES!" I shouted, leveled my spear and charged at the drakon.
"No! Wait!" Percy yelled.
But it was too late. I saw the drakon look at me and spit poison in my face. I screamed and collapsed as it burned my face. "Clarisse!" Annabeth yelled as she ran to help me.
"C'mon, you stupid worm! Look at me!" Percy yelled.
Then the familiar voice. "NO! Curse you, WHY?" Clarisse yelled.
I didn't need to look to know it was her. "WHY?" She demanded as she held me in her arms.
The pain hurt but I deserved it. I did this to my friends. To the people I loved. To Charlie.
Clarisse then stood up in anger, taking her spear from me. "You want death?!" Clarisse screamed at the drakon. "Well, come on!"
Flawlessly, Clarisse pulverized the Drakon as I laid there. I knew my fate already as the campers surrounded me. Annabeth removed my helmet as everyone stared at my dying, traitorous face. I could see them trying to process what had just happened. I, Silena Beauregard, was dying. No amount of ambrosia or nectar could save me, but I didn't want it to anyways. For if I survived, I would never have forgiven myself for betraying my friends.
"What were you thinking?" Clarisse asked as she cradled my head in her lap.
I tried to swallow, but my lips were dry and cracked. "Wouldn't . . . listen. Cabin would . . . only follow you."
"So you stole my armor," Clarisse said. "You waited until Chris and I went out on patrol; you stole my armor and pretended to be me." She glared at her siblings. "And NONE of you noticed?"
"Don't blame them," I said. "They wanted to . . . to believe I was you."
"You STUPID Aphrodite girl," Clarisse cried. "You charged a drakon? WHY?"
I let a tear fall from my face. "All my fault," I cried. "The drakon, Charlie's death . . . Camp endangered—"
"Stop it!" Clarisse yelled. "That's not true."
I held my breath as I knew I would be judged, but they deserved to know. I opened my hand to reveal the scythe charm. "You were the spy," Percy said.
I cried as I nodded. "Before . . . I liked Charlie, Luke was nice to me," I said. "He was so . . . charming. Handsome. Later, I wanted to stop helping him, but he threatened to tell. He promised . . . He promised I was saving lives. Fewer people would get hurt. He told me he wouldn't hurt . . . Charlie. He lied to me."
It was getting harder for me to breathe as Clarisse yelled orders to her cabin. I looked in shame as I breathed. "Forgive me," I said.
"You're not dying," Clarisse insisted.
"Charlie. . ." I said looking into the distance, beginning to fade from this world. "See Charlie . . ."
And with my last dying breath, I closed my eyes, and faced my judgement before the judges of the Underworld. I would reunite with Charlie as I was blessed with Elysium.
"Silena," I heard his voice.
"Charlie," I smiled before frowning. "I'm so sorry."
"Sorry for what?" He asked.
"For being a trai-"
"You're a hero, Silena," he said, kissing me with his lips. "That's all that matters to me."
I kissed him. "I've missed you so much, Charlie," I smiled, wrapping my arms around his neck as he wrapped his arms around my waist. "I betrayed my friends. How could you still love me?"
"Because I love you," he said. "And nothing will ever change that, Daughter of Aphrodite."
"But I'm still a trai-"
"No, you're not," he interrupted. "And anyone who says that is delusional and doesn't understand."
"But I am, Charlie. Why can't you accept that?" I argued. "I have to accept that I betrayed my friends."
"You're in Elysium," he said. "So clearly you are a hero. Otherwise you wouldn't be here with me."
I kissed him again. "So you're not mad or upset by my actions?" I asked.
"Not a chance," he said giving me another kiss.
And that is my story.
