CHAPTER 2

ARIEL'S POV

I left the letter to my father in his quarters, and left the palace. I began swimming towards Ursula's, my tail flicking back and forth, propelling me in the right direction.
I was almost there. Soon I will be free. Soon I ca-

What is that?!

The sky was a dark grey, light grey clouds always moving across the water break.
I swam upwards, curiosity getting the better of me. I was deep down in the water, so it took awhile to swim upwards. If I was a human, I would have already drowned by now. But with my tail, I was swimming at 3x the speed of a human.

Finally I got to the top of the sea, breaking the invisible barrier between air and water.

I breathed in the fresh air, instantly regretting it and going into a coughing fit.

The oh so fresh air happened to be smoke.

It's like god just decided "when life gives you air, blow it away and throw smoke in their faces"

I don't know what made me do it, but I suddenly swam towards where the smoke got thicker, trying to find the source of it.

There!

I swam quickly towards the shadow. As I got closer, I saw bright orange and red flames burning the wooden structure of a ship. It was slowly sinking, retreating to the ocean.

If there's a ship, there must be people!

I flicked my tail back and forth, swimming around the bits of wood floating about. The colour of my hair was glowing brightly from the light, giving of the effect of flames.

What seemed like ages, I finally reached the ship, just to see a young man, maybe a few years older than me, jumping off the ship and diving into the water. He emerged seconds later, coughing up water and smoke. He looked weak, fragile almost. He slowly swam towards a wide, broken wood piece and half laid on it, his legs still in the water.

I wearily swam towards him, careful to make some distance between us. As I got closer, I could see he was motionless, laying on the wood.

He passed out.

I felt a smile creep onto my face. I had never been this close to a human before without them seeing me.

I swam faster than before towards the human. He was quite handsome, with a slender figure, fair skin and dark black hair covering the top of his head. He was wearing a white v-neck collared shirt, a red cummerbund, navy pants and black boots.

I reached out my right arm to move his wet hair away from his face. As my hand touched his skin, a pink light appeared where I was touching. Two glowing pink and red ribbons rose out of the light, entwining in each other, and spiralling up my arm. When it reached my shoulder, two more ribbons appeared, spiralling down my body. More ribbons came, until I was blinded by the light of the ribbons and was covered from head to toe.

A ribbon crept its way across my eyes, and a mixture of pink and red was all I could see.

That was the last thing I saw before being enveloped in light.

BELLE'S POV

As I left the letter on the table in our little house, I started thinking about the outcomes of doing this.

Is this the right thing to do?

Of course it is, it's my life

But what about father?
