Distraction

I sat idly at my desk amongst the sea of them, as I was one of the many editors working for Sky Media. No one really talked in this section, just, headphones on as the voices of Adam, Max, Ross or whoever boomed in our ears. Cut this, cut that, add background music, pop up there--editing became almost like a pattern, a routine after some time. If I was any more sane than I am I would quit my job and move on to something less of what this is. But what made Sky Media particularly interesting were the people, the ones who'd trot over to you, pull out your headphones and distract you from the pounding headache you didn't know you had. As the video I was editing fell silent I heard Tim's voice in the background, as tempted as I was to whip around, I didn't. For only a few moments later I felt the presence of a strange texture tickling my nose. Looking down I saw a head of broccoli, my eyes travelling from the vegtable, to his hand, up his arm and finally connecting with Tim's ecstatic orbs. I slowly slipped the headphones around my neck as I gave both the camera and Tim a confused stare "I'm offering everyone some of my broccoli today" "I mean if you're offering" with that I took more than half of the frozen vegtable, broke it off and munched on it. Tim's medlodious chuckles filled the room as he turned the camera back on him "Shit, there goes, like, two dollars of broccoli" "I could've taken all of it but I felt generous" I shouted over to him, glancing over his shoulder Tim scoffed, grinning. "We'll be back here soon" in my pheriferals I watched him skip off to bother god-knows-who. It was guys like him that made me enjoy what I do. Time had passed, no one would be able to tell how long, editing was one of those jobs that could feel like a minute or feel like an eternity--there was no way to tell. Head resting on one of my propped up hands I stared intently at the screen in front of me, both in and out of focus. At this point I had let my headphones hang around my neck, the pressure on my ears starting to hurt. In the distance, I heard that one song people would play when doing the 'water bottle flip' thing. As the music got closer I glanced towards it source, wondering if one of the guys had gone to bother Corey with their music. Tim stood feet away from my desk, water bottle in hand, on cue he flipped it--landing perfectly on the side of my desk. Inside I cringed at the action, but I couldn't help but laugh as I shook my head in disbelief. Tim cheered, dabbing and yelling about some other, debatably cringey, memes in his moment of victory. "You're such a dork" "I know m'lady, it's my job to be a dork here" he turned back to the camera "I told you we'd be back folks". "What a comeback" I remarked sarcastically, sliding back in my rolling chair to get into his frame. "Oh don't lie--" Tim stepped back, crouching down so he could playfully put his arm around me "--you love having me distract you". I sighed in content "These moments are one of the reasons I work here, Tim" he turned his head to face me full on, a goofy smile plastered on his face "Who's the dork now, Miss Sentimental" "Shut up" "I guess you could say she's--" he mashes the zoom button, holding a smile that screamed 'I'm dead inside' "A-dork-able". I blushed lightly "If you're gonna come in here and distract me, nevertheless call me 'adorkable', at least think of less cringey ways to do it" I said, throwing the water bottle in his direction. "Can do!" Winking, he was off, up to whatever scheme he had planned next. I turned back towards my desk, ignoring the looks and eyebrow wiggles the editors next to me exchanged. Placing both my elbows on the desk I rested my chin on my folded hands, I sighed happily. He called me adorable, I blushed, maybe I come back to work for distractions like these--moments with him.
