Alone and afraid in a little girl’s room
With pictures of lambs, clowns, and balloons
A breeze steals in through a barely cracked window
To comfort a child who lies alone, crying
Wonders if loneliness feels like dying.
Up to the sky a young bird starts to fly
First flight from its Mother’s care
Too young to leave home
But wanting to try
A little girl’s life passes by.
Alone and afraid in a little girl’s room
Outside the storm stirs up thunder and gloom
Trying to be strong, to be good, to grow up
Wond’ring if anyone really does love her
Wishing that someone would just come and hold her.
Up to the sky a young bird starts to fly
First flight from its Mother’s care
Too young to leave home
But wanting to try
A little girl’s life passes by.
Alone and afraid in a little girl’s room
Outside the lilacs are eager to bloom
Inside a young heart grows desperately lonely
Staring out, silent, with no one to talk to
Fearful that maybe she’s not hid from view.
Up to the sky a young bird starts to fly
First flight from its Mother’s care
Too young to leave home
But wanting to try
A little girl’s life passes by.
