"And he scores for the first time tonight!" the commentator of the football match playing on the TV exclaimed loudly.
Elliot gazed at the screen from behind the working top of the cafe still not seeing why people find the sport so interesting. But it's not like he could judge after all. Last time he touched a ball was a long time ago when he was asked to pass it after the testosterone dudes in his class dropped it near him. It didn't really end well, though.
Oh, wait, no. It was last week when he got hit in the face by a volley ball in PE class.
Yeah, that's how PE classes went for him when he was forced to get in them, because there were no more things to help with around the whole school or because teachers 'really cared about him not skipping classes'.
If you didn't get the image of Elliot being the typical, shy, self-conscious dude until now I don't know where have your head been.
Yeah, he actually is that type of guy.
Not.
No, teachers didn't really care about his education when they sent him off to class. They usually just wanted to get rid of him because he pissed them of with his remarks.
Elliot had a big mouth.
And his hate, which was not exactly hate, towards PE didn't mean he didn't do any sports because he hated every single one of them. No, he actually did some sports. He just didn't like sports with balls because they were usually team sports. He wasn't exactly good at team stuff.
And that's the reason why he wasn't all cheery when his boss brought a guy, Mattias, earlier today and told him this was his new colleague.
Elliot heard the bathroom door swing open and a loud puff following it. He tilted his head towards the direction of the sound. Mattias had seen the result on the TV.
"It's okay." he smiled." They'll make it." Elliot narrowed his eyes in confusion.
The score was literally 0-3 and Mattias' team didn't seem really motivated to win.
Elliot heard the little bell hung over the door chirp and saw a bunch of people enter the cafe.
"Mattias, can you give me a pen?" Elliot went around the counter top ready to take the people's order.
Mattias took a pen from his pocket and handed it to Elliot but when the latter stretched his hand to take it Mattias pulled it away earning a confused look.
"Please?" Mattias said trying not to laugh.
"Wh- Okay, please." He said fast because the customers had already sat on a table.
"There you go!" Mattias gave him the pen, grinning. Elliot just rolled his eyes before he turned around giving the people a fake smile.
Him and Mattias talked through the day and from their conversations Elliot figured out that Mattias was a cheerful person. Always positive and smiling, making jokes.
"You want a ride home?" Mattias asked when Elliot came back and started making a coffee.
"What?" Elliot tried to remember if he had told Mattias about going home by bus but he couldn't.
"Well, I didn't see a car nor a bike outside so I thought that it would be nice of me if I asked." he answered. "Besides, the weather isn't that good today." He added and a thunder sounded from outside exalting his words.
"I think I will walk." Elliot said and another thunder broke the silence. "Or I can take the bus." This time he heard spotting from outside and let out a sigh in defeat. "Okay, I would like to take your offer...please." he agreed smiling faintly.
"Okay then, see you outside." Mattias said, his face broadened into a grin, and headed towards the staff room.
"Wait, our shift isn't over yet." Elliot exclaimed.
"You're right it's not." Mattias said. He took his phone out of his pocket and looked at the luminous screen.
"But it is now." he said after a few seconds staring at the screen and turned his phone so Elliot could see it. Then he exited the room backwards mouthing 'boom' with his hands up. Elliot just rolled his eyes and got back to serving his last customers for the day.

"Nice car." Elliot complimented Mattias' vehicle.
"Thank you." He smiled." I got it for my seventeenth birthday."
"And how old are you again?" Elliot asked getting into the car.
"19. But I don't really look my age." He explained. In Elliot's oppinion that was not true. He noticed that Mattias was a bit older than him from the moment that he saw him enter the cafe. Elliot actually thought that he could even pass for a 20-21 year old wit his not so small frame and mature look.
"Are you in college?"
"Mhm." Mattias hummed shutting the door closed.
"Which one?"
"Hey calm down with the questions." Mattias silently chuckled. "What are we going to talk about tomorrow at work if I spill out everything now?" He asked putting the key in the ignition.
"Fair enough." Elliot nodded.
"Where am I driving?" Mattias started the engine.
"Just drop me near the local park. I live really close to it." Elliot directed.
"Okay, it's on my way home." Mattias smiled.
The ride was quiet but not awkward. The two guys made small talks from time to time which were usually initiated by Mattias.
"Thank you for the ride, Mattias." Elliot said when the driver pulled next to the park.
"Matt, please. And no problem"
"Why not your full name?" Elliot questioned pulling the handle of his door.
"Because I don't really like it." He babbled.
"Well, I think it's kind of cool, but okay. Matt it is." Elliot assured him.
"Thanks." Matt said smiling as he watched Elliot get out of the car. "See you tomorrow."
"See ya." Elliot waved and shut the door. He watched as Mattias' car retreated and when he couldn't see it anymore he proceeded to walk home.
Mattias was actually not that bad.
