I tackled Maren in a hug. And by tackle, I mean I threw myself at her so hard we fell.
"Sam, could you not?" she gasped. I stood up and pulled her to her feet. I then started to hug everyone else. Once I was done, I said, "You guys are so freaking badass for starting this whole thing."
"We know," John said.
"So what exactly happened between the time I was frozen and the time you escaped?"
"Honestly, not much. They would take one of us every once in a while for the experiment with the chips, but they got it to work pretty quickly. They gave each of us a modified one. It was connected to you. Once you woke up, we would continue to age normally. However, we did not know that right away. About six months after we all received a chip, a small group of scientists came to our cell and got us out. They explained the chips to us before the guards found us. We only got out. Later that night, we saw them executed. They sacrificed their lives for us, and we don't even know their names," Clare said.
"Damn, I wish they were alive, so I could thank them," I said.
"So do we. Now, we have other business to take care of. We need to broadcast to our other bases," Krystal said.
"Broadcast? I thought they already knew I was back," I said.
"Yes, but a message from our acknowledged leader is exactly what everyone needs to build up hope," Albana said.
"Fine. What am I suppose to say?"
"Just be inspiring," Luke said. Oh yeah, sure. Let me just pull that speech out of my pocket.
"Alright. When are we doing it?"
"Right now," James said as he pressed a button on a remote, causing the large screen to flip and reveal a camera. I stared in awe.
"That thing is so cool!" I exclaimed. They all laughed at me.
"Oh, this is nothing," Miranda said. I shot her a look.
"Whatever. Just let me get this over with."
Maren pointed to James.
"Access the main screen of every base. And no screwing around this time," she said to him. Out of everyone, she seems to have changed the most. After this is over, I'm going to ask the others about it.
"We're going live in five, four, three, two, one," he said before pointing to me. I instinctively straightened my posture.
"Hello to you other bases. I am Sam Carson. I'm here to awe and inspire, but I'm not sure what to say, so if it sounds like I'm pulling words out of my ass, it's because I am."
Out of the corner of my eye, I saw two reactions from everyone: laughing or face palming. This is going so well.
"I want to thank you all for the work you've done thus far. I've heard of your victories, and I am very proud. I've also heard how I'm supposed to have powers. I'm going to be honest: I don't know much about them yet. However, I know I possess them since I managed to punch a hole through solid steel. I'm pretty sure that isn't normal. That's only the beginning. I will train and train to get stronger and take out Robin. He will fall! His reign will end! Don't lose hope! Keep hitting places harder and stronger! Together, we will end this nightmare!"
I could see James signaling me. I had ten seconds left. Better end it right.
"I only have ten seconds left, so I'll end with this: stay safe, kick ass, and keep your hope strong. Thank you."
I glanced at James. He shot me a thumbs-up.
"How was that?" I asked. Honestly, towards the end it was really sounding like propaganda. That was probably the point.
