'The time of terror has begun.' She spoke still unconscious. They rested her on a bed and she had been like that for several seasons. They had tried within their means to find the cause of her semi-comatose state over the past twelve years. Yeon had grown up talking and worrying by her benefactors side. She immediately ran to her side and wetted her forehead with a cloth and the shaman's eyes fluttered open. Gasping Yeon fell back and ran away.
'Myeona!' She called.
Myeona stepped in the room, she was twenty-four years old now and was fair and beautiful. Her hair flowed momentously down her back and her head wore pretty pins. She smiled at Yeon. 'What's wrong?'
'S-She woke up..' Yeon gestured to the room where the Shaman lay and watched tentatively and she ran into the room alarmed. Yeon followed swiftly after alerting the other children. The aligned perpendicular to the Shaman's laid body and bowed.
'Good morning!' They chorused staring in a peculiar manner at the Shaman and awaited her response. The Shaman rose up in a sitting position and turned towards her students. She watched them for several minutes as if to figure out who they were. Her eyes lingering specifically on Yeon.
Pursing her lips, she pointed to her. 'Yeon?' Her aura was like that of her mother's, both with a persevering spirit.
'Yes mam.' She courtesied.
'Polite, humble- Myeona seems to have taught you well.' The Shaman chuckled. 'Go and buy me some persimmon. I crave some.'
Slightly disagreeing with the Shaman's thoughts, Yeon nevertheless turned her back on the occasion to fetch some money for her venture out.
Now upon this time Geuma and Ohyi were seen playing together in the high courts of the palace where they both resided. They sat opposite each other staring intensely at a board game they were attempting. 'You can't play Sudo.' Ohyi said. 'I win you all the time.'
Geuma, taking advantage of his moment of pride placed his dice at a crucial point and jumped up. 'I win, I win!' He smiled. 'For the first time ever!'
'How did that happen?' Ohyi sulked. 'Let's play again-no, i don't want to play anymore.' He stood up and walked away from the board game.
'Ya! You promised to sneak out together, remember?'
'Shh! Go and tell the whole world, stupid.'
'You can't call me stupid, I'm the crown prince.' Geuma said standing up to retreat to his quarters.
'Stupid!' Ohyi retorted almost by his own quarters. Sukhin was arriving from the opposite direction to the both of them, and concluded that they had just had a fight, from their determined faces. The thought of it pleased him and so he fingered his beard, wriggled his moustache and wandered away. After dinner, it was the hour of the horse and no one was to disturb the two princes. They suited in simple Yangban (middle class) clothing and headed to the connection between their courtyards, where they met to play games, to meet up. Then nonchalantly passing by two guards they saw the nearest wall and climbed over it.
Yeon was still searching for the persimmons but spotted some trinklets that she fancied out of the corner of her eye and ventured over to it but accidentally collided with two people and fell over.
'Your highn...' Ohyi began as he scraped himself off the floor and dusting himself, before receiving the glare from Geuma and shutting up. Yeon immediately sprang to her feet.
'Sorry.' She said and began to go her way. This cause Ohyi to become angry, in his mind he thought who was this little bastard to come and touch royalty and expect to leave with a simple apology. That the least they could do is offer their life. And so he pulled her back and slapped her.
Yeon saw blue. Yeon saw red. Yeon saw white and in acts of rage she proceeded to beat Ohyi up, and kicked him and bit his arm, invoking her power paralysed him in an uncomfortable position of pain for a few minutes, meanwhile Geuma was in tears laughing. 'Why did you hit me?' She screamed but of course he could not answer. She turned towards Geuma. 'And what do you think you're laughing at?' He stared starry eyed at her and suddenly thought that she was the perfect person to tour them around the market. Plus she had magic powers.
As she turned round to walk off, after her trinklet, he pulled her back by her wrist and before she thought to retaliate, asked. 'Can you please show us around?' She hissed and took back her wrist from his before looking at him in contemplation.
'What if i say no?' She asked.
'Then there's nothing we can do about it.' Geuma answered back. They looked like Yangbans she thought, they had probably sneaked out. So she decided to show them things before they returned.
Releasing Ohyi, she turned her back to the both of them. 'Sure let's go.' She bought her trinklets and bought them boiled sweets and rice cake.
'Can we go on the swing?' Asked Ohyi, to which she looked at him sternly and pointed at a sign that read "ONLY GIRLS ALLOWED" but started to move towards the swing anyway.
The previous person had just been defeated and the trade woman called out loudly. 'Who will challenge the champion next?'
Geuma looked at her. 'Why don't you do it?' She looked at him, shaking her head. 'I bet you can do it.' He returned. 'Please~' She moved forwards and climbed on the swing. Up against the undefeated champion who looked at her like she would devour her. The target was to swing as high as she could and collect a rose with her teeth and for that they would gift her some chocolate and some rich people sweets and rice cake. People began to cheer her on as she took her first swing; and then the next one a little higher as she gained confidence.
'You can do it!' Geuma shouted and Ohyi watched thoughtfully. Then a rope snapped. Yeon swung vigorously to the left side and watched helplessly as the reigning champion took advantage of it whilst smiling and nudged her till she had nothing left but to swing on the rope. The board wasn't there anymore.
Gasps silenced the people as Yeon was but a child in a terrible high position. It was dangerous both for her and the immediate people around her. Unable to decide what to do she simply focused on the rose and leapt for it. Away from the rope with nothing, it seemed, to break her fall. Catching it, she dropped below and landed on someone, knocking them out.
Geuma was on the floor with Yeon on top of him and Ohyi in a dazzled and panicked state. The second time he had injured himself in the past hour. Yeon arose and cleaned Geuma up apologising to him and only just realising the rose she had dropped to her hand and where the thorns cut through her skin. The people gathered round her almost immediately and picked her up to receive her price. Collecting it she gave half to the princes and left them to find their way as she still needed to find some persimmons.
Then they both climbed back over the wall.
