The next day, Sofia searched her room for her diary. "It has to be here," she said desperately.
Seeing her sister so upset made Amber even more nervous. She didn't know what to do. Suddenly, Hildegard and Clio showed up. "Girls, I'm so glad you're here," she told her friends. "Let's go to my room."
Amber quickly took Hildegard and Clio to her bedroom. Seeing Amber rush like that made Sofia realize something was going on.
In Amber's room, Hildegard and Clio realized something was bothering Amber.
"Amber what's wrong?" Clio asked.
"You look as if you've seen a ghost—or a frog," Hildegard noted.
"Worse than that: I forgot to put Sofia's diary back where it belonged yesterday, and now she knows it's gone," Amber revealed. "Now she's desperately looking for it."
"That's awful," Clio frowned.
"I know—and now I don't know what to do," Amber claimed. "I can't decide whether to put the diary back in Sofia's room when she's not looking or give Sofia the diary and tell her what I did."
"This is horrible," Clio sighed.
It wasn't any better—the princesses didn't know that James had been listening to their conversation. He didn't like what he was hearing.
"I think you should give Sofia her diary and not tell her that you're the one who took it in the first place," Hildegard suggested.
"On one hand, that would keep Sofia from knowing how it disappeared," Amber noted. "But on the other hand, it would mean lying to my sister."
James couldn't believe what he was hearing. He needed to sneak into Amber's room, find Sofia's diary, and give it back to her.
"Let's find you something to do to calm yourself down, Amber," Hildegard suggested.
James snuck away from Amber's door, and the three princesses left. James snuck into Amber's room to find Sofia's diary. He looked under the pillow and found the diary. James was about to get out of the room when Hugo came up and said, "Hi, James! What's going on?"
"Oh, hi, Hugo," James smiled sheepishly. "Um, Amber stole Sofia's diary yesterday and never put it back, and now Sofia is desperately looking for it."
"Oh, my," Hugo frowned.
"Well, now that I have it, I can give it back to Sofia," James smiled.
The princes entered Sofia's bedroom, which was a big mess.
"Wow, Sof, you really made a mess," Hugo noted. "Looking for that diary?"
"Yeah, how did you know?" Sofia asked.
"It's right here," James said, giving the diary back to his little sister.
"Oh, thank you, James," Sofia smiled, and she hugged James tightly. "Where was it?"
"You're not going to be happy, Sof," James frowned.
