Sofia and Hugo retreated to her room. She was happy to have gotten her diary back, but she was still upset with her sister and her friends. "Hugo, do you mind if I...?" she was about to ask.

"No, go ahead," Hugo told her.

Sofia sat in her window seat and pulled out a purple pen. She opened her diary to a blank page and wrote:

Dear Diary,

Last night, I thought you were a goner. I thought I'd lost you forever, but you're back, and I'm glad. Let me take it from the top.

I was telling you about Prince Hugo when Amber, Hildegard, and Clio came and asked me what I was telling you. Hugo came over for our playdate, and I put you back on the bookshelf. I should've put you in a better hiding spot because Amber and her friends stole you from my room. When I got back to my room after Hugo left, you were gone, and I searched all over for you. This morning, James found you under Amber's pillow and told me what happened, and I was steamed hotter than lava in a volcano.

I feel horrible being angry at Amber, but why did she have to steal you?

Okay, I'll write again soon. Hugo is here for a playdate, and I don't want to keep him waiting.

Love,

Sofia

"Are you okay, Sofia?" Hugo asked.

"No, sometimes I just don't understand Amber—or her friends," Sofia sighed. "I have to say that Amber may not deserve my trust, but she deserves it more than Hildegard. Why did Amber and her friends have to steal my stuff?"

"I don't know," Hugo frowned. "The only thing I ever stole from Axel was the spotlight after the flying derby championships and our first ice-dancing recital."

Sofia giggled at that. Those words made her feel a little better, but it wasn't enough to change what Amber and her friends did.
