"Ani! Come quick da! What's taking you so long?!" shouted his mother from the stairway below for the tenth time that morning. "Ma, vidunga ma. Mapillai mathiri ready aaga venama? Avan ready agarathey oru periya vishayam," said Vaishnavi, Anirudh's elder sister, patting her mom on the shoulder, amused by her temper. "Nee setha chumma irudi, unakku onnum theriyathu," huffed the older woman. If there was one thing Mrs Ravichander detested, it was being late. She glared at the grandfather clock that just struck eleven and sighed deeply before trying again. "Ani, ippo varaporiya illiya da?! Ippo ni varla, naan mela vanthiduven!" she screamed, at the top of her lungs. "Hmm, ponnu pakarthuke ippadina, first nightuku eppudi ready aavano!" giggled Vaishnavi before leaving her mother to find her husband, Abhinav.
"Varaen, varaen, varaen maaaaa," Anirudh cooed back in his baritone. Buttoning the last button on his shirt, he looked up and smiled at what he saw. "Whaddup hottie? Ready to rock the day?"he asked his mirrored self, boldly. "Porom, ponnu pakrom, therikkavidrom!" he continued, grinning at the very thought of meeting his fiancée in a bit. As he continued to fancy himself in the mirror, Mrs Ravichander crept into the room and hit him hard in the arse. "Deii, what have you been doing for so long? Do you want to go or not? I can call this off if you don't, Gucci," she said, with a smile widening to her eyes. "Neenga pannuvel, but pinnala oru kudumba kuthuvezhaku illayenu feel panna kudathu," Anirudh chuckled.
Cupping his face in her hands, Mrs Ravichander replied," I hope all goes well, Ani. I really want only the best for you". Anirudh smiled and kissed her hair. "Of course, ma. Now, let's go before the bride comes here to find us," he joked while playfully pulling his mom's hand gesturing them to leave the room.

"Mapillai vandhutaaru! Mapillai vandhutaaru!" chorused three young girls, rushing to welcome Anirudh and his family as Anirudh's red BMW pulled into the driveway of the bride's residence. As they stepped out of the car, a middle aged couple, the parents of the bride Anirudh assumed, welcomed them into their home. "Vaango, vaango! Ungalukaga thaan ellarom waiting hahaha," laughed the bride's dad, in his booming voice. A large man he was, broad and plump with a scalp filled with clumps of greying hair and a moustache strangely shaped probably a failure after desperately trying to mimic the Singam styled moustache of Suriya sir, thought Anirudh giggling inwardly. His wife, looking the utter opposite of her husband, a woman with a tight lipped smile and stern face, nodded viciously in agreement to her husband's words throwing side glances at Anirudh's family as they stepped into the vast living area of the house. As they were seated, Anirudh's eyes rushed around every nook and cranny of the room in search of his fiancée but his efforts were to no avail. All he saw were aunties draped in silk sarees, whispering and exchanging awkward looks among themselves, occasionally grinning at him slyly. Darn it, he cursed under his breath. Mrs Ravichander heard her son's sighs and smiled to herself then interrupted the talking relatives with " ponnu konjam azhaichuttu varella? Ani konjam avasarama poganumnu chonnan. Thappa ninaikatheley" then smiled apologetically at the parents of the bride-to-be. The large man was taken aback for a second then, guffawed creating a cacophony in the recently silenced room. "Aiyoo no worries, thangachi. We were just going to bring her in!"said he. Turning to his wife he gestured her to bring their daughter in. The short, frail lady rushed up the stairs , tripping on her purple kancheevaram silk saree numerous times. As she disappeared up the steps, the chatting resumed in the living room. The three girls who harmonised Anirudh's presence approached him, nudging him on both arms. "Neenga thaan enga akka va kalavandu pogaporela?" laughed one, with two ponytails on either sides of her head. "Kalavandu poi akka va yenna seyvel?"asked another, with a missing front tooth. "Yethetho seyvaru di, akka sonnale. Akka sonna ellame seyvela?" asked another, with a pink rose pinned to her ponytail, matching her hot pink coloured pavadai sattai. Anirudh turned red but took the child, placed her on his lap and confidently asked, " unga akka enna seyvennu chonna?" expecting a childish reply like playing with three of them but he was up for a surprise when the trio laughed and answered in unison, " neenga akka madiyila paduthu thunguvela, akka iduppa pudichi velayaduvela, akkavuku neraya mutham kudupela!" Anirudh realized that they were the centre of attraction right then and decided to switch to a less mature topic but before he could even start phrasing a new sentence, the entire crowd, including his family, gathered at the room roared with laughter. "Deii, nee seyya pora ellame intha kuttigalukey therinchiruchi. Ippo vera leelaigala yosichu vai, illana un wife-u semma bored ayiduvada, thambi," whispered Vaishnavi, making Ani look sheepish. "Athimberum bored ayitaro? Un leelai ellam romba palasa irukume," retorted Anirudh in a sarcastic tone to Vaishnavi, who in turn scowled at him then, turned away to gossip with a woman of her age. Anirudh eagerly continued waiting for the much expected woman, his fiancée to join the lot and to meet her. He was much apprehensive about their first meeting provided the fact that it was an arranged by their families. Anirudh had never thought he would end up falling victim to an arranged marriage. Love marriage was his ultimate goal in life upon succeeding in his career. He reminisced the good old days back in college when he was surrounded by silly girls who crave his music. They would worship him, stalking him around the campus and even waiting at his doorstep to propose their love to him. He, in turn, would shake off their proposals and walk off with a casual "I'm really sorry but I love someone else". The fan based love increased and the proposals raised by number daily as he rose to fame. Countless numbers of bouquets, love letters and gifts were mounted in him room at dawn and dusk but none of these were from the one he called his loved one. Before Anirudh could further delve into his thoughts of the past, the three girls' voices rang in his ears. " Akka varra, akka varra! Angga parunggo, mama!" they cried, cheerfully. Anirudh looked up to to catch the sight of an alluring, young face. Edgy jawlines carved by God himself, a sharp nose gifted by the Greek goddesses, and lips resembling tulip petals, thought Anirudh dreamily, as he stared at the maiden in a golden saree who was watching him intently too. But what really mesmerized Anirudh was her almond-shaped eyes that were a magnificent green in colour. They mirror emeralds, he swallowed as she looked into his eyes that were pigmented a common chestnut brown. As he was reading every angle of her, he grew to love and lust over her so strongly that it frightened him. "Enna mapillai, ponna pidichiruka?" asked the father. " umm, uncle naan konjam ponnu kitta pesalama?"asked Anirudh, unable to control his excitement of being wed to such a beauty. "Tharaalama, mapillai! Ponggo, namma elarom konjum neram wait panrom!" came the reply from the jovial older man. Anirudh rushed behind the bride to a room upstairs as she led the way. She shut it lock and turned to him, smiling shyly. They began conversing first conservatively and rather hesitantly but it escalated and progressed real quick. They began with :
"Hi, I'm Anirudh. Neenga?"
"Naan Anjali, Anjali Krishnamoorthy"
and ended with :
" So, eppo marriage pannikalam?"
Anjali laughed out in surprise and happiness of being asked such a question for the first time in her life.
" Hahah.. umm.. I'm okay with anything. As soon as possible!" She laughed, burying her face in her palms.
Anirudh inched closer to her, grinning widely. "Hey, okay sollitu enna appadiye ammachiralamnu nenachiya di,Maami?? Kiss engga? Hug engga? At least look at me before I leave di," he said, crossing his arms, trying to look stern and serious. Anjali looked up at Anirudh, her cat eyes gleaming in the sun rays that penetrated through the window of the room. She smiled at him, shyly, walking towards him till they were only a centimetre away from each other.
What is Anjali going to do? OMG, Anirudh and Anjali seem to like each other. Will this relationship last at least till their marriage? Will be updating the next chapter soon!
