I waved my parents goodbye, they sped down the road through the university gates in the family jeep. I took a deep breath, observing my surroundings. The collage grounds were pretty, vast green fields, patches of flowers and two long hedges leading up to what I assumed was the main entrance.

I walked up the the pathway, dragging my two huge suitcases behind me and my purse slung over my shoulder.

The reception was quiet, a plump middle-aged woman was sitting at a huge desk squinting at a computer screen.

"Uh, excuse me?"

She looked up at me over her glasses, "hello there. Can I help?"

"Uh yeah I'm looking for.." I whipped my university papers out my pocket, "I'm looking for dorm 306, do you know where that is?"

She nodded, told me the directions and signed me in as a new student.

I unlocked the door to dorm 306 to find...

Someone already in there??

The room smelled of sweet men's fragrance and a mixture of cigarettes, I peered over confusingly at the guy slouched on his bed. He was holding a white guitar which looked like a fender.

"Can I help you?" He said, he sounded just as confused as I felt.

If he was my roommate then the university were breaking their own rules, males and females were not allowed to share the same room.

"Uh.. I've been informed that this is my room." I said sheepishly.

The guy smiled, flashing a set of perfect teeth and dimples at me. "Well I guess we're roommates then."

I forced a small smile, not knowing how to feel about the situation. It wasn't that I thought bad of the guy, but I would have felt more comfortable with a female I guess.

I threw both my suitcases onto my bed at the other side of the room. I unpacked everything whilst listening to the guy on his guitar. He was good. Every now and then he would play a few chords from a Michael Jackson or a Prince song.

As soon as he started playing Purple Rain I turned around quickly, "that's one of my favourite songs."

He lifted his eyes from the stings and looked over at me, "me too."

I turned around, pulling out my laptop from my bag.

Just as I logged in I caught a whiff of strong cigarette smoke. I glared over at the guy who was laying on his bed, a cigarette hanging out his mouth and one hand down his pants.

Disgusting.

"Excuse me? Are you allowed to smoke in the rooms?"

He shrugged, taking a drag and blowing out smoke.

"Well can you go somewhere else and smoke please? It smells bad enough already in here."

He smiled as if I was entertaining him or something, "fine fine." He got up and sat on the window ledge which was in fact closer to my half of the room.

I sighed, feeling irritated. I had to share a room with this lazy fool and I wasn't looking forward to it.

"What's your name?" He asked whilst blowing smoke towards the window. It didn't go out the window at all.

"Idalis."

"I'm Bruno."

I continued to work on my laptop, looking at my class schedules which I had in two days.

"Don't you have classes today?" I asked Bruno, hinting that I didn't want to be around him in quite a rude way.

"I had a songwriting class this morning, I haven't got anymore today." He flicked his cigarette out the window and made his way over to his bed again.

I had songwriting classes..

"What's your teachers name?" I asked curiously.

"Mrs. Steph."

I rolled my eyes, that was my teacher also. I sighed, shutting my laptop.

"Looks like we have songwriting classes together." I said with fake enthusiasm.

Ten boring minutes had passed and I had completely tidied and unpacked my half of the room. Whereas Bruno on the other hand, clothes where flung everywhere and his bed wasn't even made, underwear was hanging out of his drawers and at least five empty crushed cans of Pepsi say next to his bed.

"Is there a store anywhere around here?" I asked him, I was getting hungry.

"Yeah just across the campus, I'll walk you there." He hopped off his bed.

I sighed to myself, "okay.. Thanks."

We walked through three different hallways in and awkward silence. I couldn't help but notice the way he walked very lightly, bouncing slightly with every step. He was wearing black and white vans, black jeans, and a grey Mickey Mouse shirt. It didn't look too bad.

We went though some doors which left us outside in the warm air, just across the quad I could see the store now.

Students were in big groups, scattered around the vast land around us. Bruno's name was called a several times by many different girls, all waving at him in a flirtatious way.

It seemed he was popular with the girls. I sniggered at the thought.

I entered the store and grabbed a basket, filling it with junk food. I could feel Bruno's presence behind me as I looked at all the different flavours of pop tarts.

He was close, too close. I moved away quickly, what a creep.

Once I had bought what I wanted we left the store.

As we walked back across the quad a few girls gave me quite dirty looks, and a group of guys stared at the two of us, they said things like,

"Bruno's who's your new girl?" "Oh look Bruno has another toy to play with."

I felt sick. So disgusted and disappointed with everything that I left Bruno, and scurried off back to the dorm without him.

I wasn't sure if I was going to enjoy my time at this amazing music university.

I would just have to focus on the work and nothing else. No distractions.

I had been sitting on my bed watching Mean Girls on my laptop when Bruno walked in, he was holding two plastic bags, filled with cans of beer.

I paused the movie.

"Where the hell did you get all that?" They most certainly didn't sell alcohol at the university store as early everyone here was underaged.

He grinned at me.

"Chill out, a few friends made me a deal. Why, do you want some?"

"No."

"Ok, suit yourself," he glanced at my laptop. "What are you watching?"

He unexpectedly jumped onto my bed, making me bounce about slightly.

I rolled my eyes and pressed play, trying to ignore the sound of Bruno slurping beer close to my ear.
