The boys all auditioned as individual contestants on the sventh series of itv1's talent show the x factor in 2010 and that was the moment when everything in thier lives was changed for ever. that year simion cowell was the mentor for the groups and declared himself 'genuinely very exstied' about one direction, who quickly became his best hope of winning the competition.Thier performances provoked such loud screams from the studio sudience (thier might be from the people at home watching too) that the judges comments could hardly be heard. amid all the hysteria simion confidently predicted his group were going to win: 'they get on well and they have steel in thier eyes and thats what i look for in my artists,' he noted 'i think they'll go far'
