Chapter Five: CC
October 15, 2017
Stifling a yawn, Rose climbed out of her makeshift bed on the floor and headed to the windows to tie the makeshift curtains back. As the light streamed in through the windows, she surveyed the room that she and Freya had made feel a bit more like a home. They had managed to make the single bed into a sort of mattress-duvet-blanket fort in one corner, and had built up a sort of cubicle in the other for a toilet, which Rose had thankfully managed to install a charm which prevented any smells. The blue fire was in each corner, providing light and warmth to the room.
Checking through the sort of cat flap in the door, Rose spotted two portions of porridge on a tray, and brought each bowl in, one by one. She placed them on the floor and began to eat hers, letting the small mound in the blankets that was Freya sleep in.
The porridge was good quality - no one could claim that whoever had them wasn't feeding them properly. It tasted delicious and homemade, much like her grandmother Molly's or the one that Hannah made for her whenever she visited the Leaky Cauldron. There was even some honey - a rare surprise.
She'd woken up unnaturally early for once, and so as she ate Rose was able to watch the sunrise, filling the sky with various shades of pink, orange and yellow, replacing the blue, black and violet of the night. By the time she had finished her breakfast, the sky was beginning to turn blue. Checking her watch, Rose noticed that it was time Freya should wake up, as her breakfast was beginning to go cold.
"Freya. Freya, wake up." Rose called, moving over to shake the girl awake. "It's time to start the day." Freya wouldn't budge, and Rose began to panic. She knew Freya was a heavy sleeper, but this was actually worrying her now. "Freya!"
Desperation struck her, and Rose flung the blankets off the bed. There lay a couple of pillows and a bedraggled teddy bear that Freya had christened Blossom. There was no Freya.
"Good morning, sunshine!" A voice called out, breezy and cheery. Rose turned around to see a woman with long brown hair step into the room. "Rise and shine! Big day ahead of you, so up you get!"
Rose looked up at her with bewilderment. Freya had vanished, and this woman didn't seem to even care. She just fussed around the room, using her wand to tidy things up and Banish the mess in the toilet corner. With a slight sigh, she made the beds, the blankets folding themselves and the pillows moving neatly to the head of the bed.
"Right, now that's all cleared up, we can get started." The woman beamed at Rose, who looked confused and puzzled.
"Get started on what? And who are you?" Rose asked, looking at the woman warily.
"Me? You can call me CC."
"Is that your name?" Rose asked, raising her eyebrows. It was highly doubtful someone would have a name which only contained two letters.
"No, but it is what you will call me." CC told her, and moved over to be nearer. "Now Rose, if you'd like to come with me, then we can get started."
"Where's Freya?" Rose asked. CC looked mildly surprised at first, but she rearranged her expression before speaking.
"The little girl? Oh, she's fine, just having a little fun playing. What you should be doing is coming with me." CC smiled, as if it made everything alright.
"No."
"No?" For a minute, Rose wondered if she had done the right thing. Anger flashed in CC's eyes, and Rose shrank back into the bed. As soon as it had come, the anger then vanished, and CC then began to speak normally again. “Alright then. We’ll get your room sorted out instead then. How about that?”
Rose nodded, and watched as CC moved around the room, waving her wand to tidy up the room.
“You said there was another girl, right?” She asked, and Rose nodded again, watching as CC created two large single beds for both of them and charmed a corner of the room into a sort of bathroom with walls and a door. She seemed to make it appear out of thin air, but Rose guessed it was some kind of charm that was done silently. The walls seemed to extend as she fitted more items in, and Rose watched in amazement, making a mental note to learn whatever charm it was that she was using. With a final flourish, Rose’s Hogwart’s trunk appeared. When she rushed to it, she found it stuffed with her books, clothes, wand, all items she needed for Hogwarts.
“I thought you might have wanted to keep learning while you were here.” CC explained, watching as Rose searched through her trunk. “I added some extra books for reading, as well.”
“The Tales Of Beedle The Bard! Mum has the original runes of this! It’s one of my favourite books!” Rose exclaimed excitedly, looking at the book. “I can’t wait to read this to Freya!”
CC’s smile dropped a little at the mention of Freya, but she quickly forced it back on her face. “Yes, you can.” She then changed the subject quickly, asking, “So, Rose, what house are you in at Hogwarts?”
“Well, I’d know that, if I hadn’t have been kidnapped on the way by some crazy freaks who thought it might be a laugh to take me.” Rose smiled sweetly. CC didn’t seem fazed that Rose had called her a crazy freak - either that, or she did a very good job of hiding it.
“Judging by your brains, I’d saw you’d be in Ravenclaw.” CC replied, not responding to Rose’s accusation. “After all, with Granger as a mother, why wouldn’t you not be?”
“Is Freya going to be back soon?” Rose changed the subject yet again, feeling slightly uncomfortable in CC's presence. She didn’t know why, but she had a bad feeling about it. Actually, she did know why - she’d been kidnapped, and her only friend had vanished as well. There were a lot of things wrong with this, and so she didn’t see why she should cooperate with someone who would give her no answers.
“Of course she will.” CC smiled, not breaking character for a second. Rose wanted to hate the woman, but she couldn’t. She couldn’t force herself to hate her, and it really bugged her that she couldn’t hate the woman who had kidnapped her - or had she? She had no proof, and that bugged her for another reason. She noticed the woman hadn’t really answered her question.
“Can I get some rest?” Rose asked, looking at CC. “I’m really tired, I’m quite irritated and I just want Freya to come back. Please?” Please often helped.
“Fine.” The tone of voice changed, and CC seemed almost tired. “She’ll be back in a minute. Goodbye.”
She left abruptly, and slammed the door on her way out. Rose collapsed in a heap, sighing in relief. It was only a few minutes later that Freya opened the door and ran in, jumping on the new beds.
“Rose! I’m back!”
“Are you alright?” Rose asked, alarmed.
“Yeah, I’m great! CC took me to where all the clothes are kept and I got loads for us! She said they’d be in the wardrobe!”
“Yes, but are you okay?”
“Yeah, I’m fine. Why wouldn’t I be?” Freya asked, bemused.
“I don’t know.” Rose said, her gut instincts telling her something was very wrong. “But everything’s not okay, and I don’t know when it will be.”
AN: Sorry I haven't updated this for a while - some stuff came up in real life and so that was slightly more important [in reality, a lot more important] than updating regularly on Wattpad. Anyway... What do you guys think about CC [and Freya, while you are at it, too]? Who do you think she really is? Is Rose's gut instinct right, or is she simply just trying to look after Rose?
