"Guys?" we hear a voice say.
Paco and I instantly separate from our hold on each other. I put my hands behind my back and look from behind Paco as he turns his head.
"Oh hey, Miklo" I say.
"What's up, cuz?" Paco asks, putting his hands in his pockets.
"Nothing really. What are you guys up to out here?" Miklo questions with a slight smirk implying that he already had an idea of what we were doing.
"Well we were helping Cruzito with a photo he wanted to take so that he could paint something." I answer.
"Yeah and after we finished I thought I would teach Jess how she could defend herself from an attacker grabbing her or something." Paco adds. I quickly nod along to what Paco's saying.
"Oh? Really?" Miklo asks tilting his head to the side. I think he kinda believed us.
"Yeah. My mom asked Paco to teach me how to defend myself since you know he used to box." I say crossing my arms over my chest and moving to the side so that I was standing next to Paco.
Paco looked over and sent a half smile my way.
"Oh well that's good, Jess should know how to defend herself. Do you guys know where Cruz is?" Miklo asks turning towards the house across the street.
"I think he's inside painting." I quickly respond. He thanks me and heads across the street to the house.
"Wanna go inside?" Paco asks looking at me.
I turn to meet his eyes, ignore his question, and ask my own, "What made you come up with that?"
"What do you mean?"
"What made you come up with that excuse? You teaching me how to defend myself."
"Oh well I figured it would work since Miklo doesn't know I actually taught you how to defend yourself 5 years ago" he smirks.
"Damn you and your smirk." I say as I start walking across the street.
He chuckles and follows me.
I look behind behind me and see him following. I start jogging to the back door of the house. In return, Paco picks up his pace.
I get to the back door first and open it to see Miklo and Cruz. They look in my direction.
"You know you love my smirk" Paco tells me as he reaches the door, not knowing that Miklo and Cruz were there.
I feel my cheeks turn slightly red and shake my head. "Stop following me, Aguilar." I reply playfully and walk in.
"I live here" he grins and walks in letting the door close behind him.
"Aw mija, are you blushing?" Cruz asks, noticing my cheeks.
"No, it's just hot outside. Shut up, Cruz." I say walking to get a cup of water.
Cruz laughs.
"Déjala, Cruz. She can't help it. I have that affect on her." Paco tells him.
I almost choke on my water when I hear that. No one notices because they're too busy laughing. I quickly finish my water and ask Cruz if he's started working on his painting.
"Oh yeah come see" he replies.
We all follow to where he has his easel set up. He hasn't started painting, but he's outlined the shapes of our bodies. Cruz points at some shapes in the reference Polaroid that he has taped to the easel and says that he still needs to outline those. As he explains his technique to Miklo, Paco stands behind me and wraps his arms around my waist. I look up at him, follow his gaze, and see that his eyes are focused on the Polaroid of us. I can't help, but wonder what he's thinking as I concentrate on the photo as well. Cruz and Miklo notice that we aren't paying attention.
