Lily Evans was a witch. Until she was eleven, she had lived her normal life without ever having known that she was different. That is, until the strange wizard boy who lived in the house next to hers told her that she was one of his kind. But that was years ago. Now, she was due to be in her sixth year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, but this particular summer seemed to be endless. Her friends weren't writing to her, her house had severely lost the House Cup after a horrible defeat in a quidditch match, (A wizard sport like football in which the players ride broomsticks) and, to top it all off, her sister Petunia hadn't even spoken to her this year.
Ever since Lily had received her letter from Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, Petunia had resented her. Lily always thought that Tuney had been jealous of her, as her parents had favoured Lily over her sister, since she was the only witch in the family. At first, Lily didn't think that Petunia being angry with her for being magical was fair because she hadn't chosen to be a witch and go to Hogwarts, and sometimes she wished that she could trade with Petunia. She got to live her ordinary life while Lily had to go to a far away school, away from her parents and sister. But after five years of it, she learned to get used to it, and made a friend at Hogwarts, Alice Prewett.
The first time she'd met Alice was at the train station in the first year, but they weren't great friends then. At the time, she came with her neighbor, Severus Snape. But ever since she had been put in Gryffindor House, and he in Slytherin, he started hanging out with some really awful kids, and the two friends slowly started separating. She met Alice and Marlene along the way, and became friends with them, but Marlene and her soon grew apart. In the fifth year, she had finally put a stop to her friendship with Severus after he called her a mudblood. The term mudblood was a horrible name to call someone with muggle parents. Alice, a year older than Lily, was the one who found her crying in the bathroom, she made her feel better, and they had been best friends since.
Lately however, Alice, seemed distant and spent all of her time with her new boyfriend, Frank Longbottom. Lily couldn't help but laugh at the sound of that name. Thinking about bad news, she remembered that last year's Defence Against the Dark Arts teacher had just quit her job. She would have to endure another year with the new teacher, and she was sure no one could replace Professor Lakewind.
She was her favorite teacher, but Lily couldn't expect anything more from a DADA teacher. It's not fair, that job's jinxed thought Lily, I don't know a single teacher that lasted longer than a year. As much as she could hope that when she entered Hogwarts, she could see Lakewind's sparkling eyes at one of the staff's chairs, the teacher certainly couldn't go back to teaching, especially after some Slytherin told the entire school she was half elf, which had explained her slight shortness and pointy ears. What does it matter anyways? I'm pretty sure that the gamekeeper's half-giant, he's huge! What difference does it make?
Thinking about all of this, Lily stood up from her bed and changed into her clothes and fed her owl, Ainsley. As Ainsley ate, she compiled a list of all the homework she would be doing today and in what order. She had been putting off her divination homework for a while now, as she didn't enjoy it much, but the train would be leaving in two days and she figured it ought to be done now. She groaned opening the textbook, but luckily noticed the potions book.
She set the divination assignment happily aside, and she opened the potions book and started memorizing a potion they'd be learning soon, The Draught of Living Death. She hadn't gotten far when her mother had called her down for breakfast.
'Coming mum,' she said.
She heard Petunia leave her room and decided it was best to wait until she was down the stairs. Before going down, she checked her magical mirror and saw a tall girl with flaming dark red hair, a small nose and astonishingly green eyes staring back at her.
