I am not a professional makeup artist, but I have done some homework on this for myself.

Most girls as they ascent into being teenagers, like to start wearing makeup.

For girls of color it may not be as easy, and we have to shop for ours and experiment.

Today's topic is one of most basic parts of makeup
Lipstick/lip color

As you girls may know, their are simple rules for us black girls and makeup.

•Don't wear bright pink colors
• get pigmented stuff
• be careful which nudes you get

Most wonder, why do we have these rules? I'll go over them for you

•Don't wear insanely bright colors ex. Baby pink, yellow

Most black girls do best with things of earthy undertones

Bright pinks and certain others don't have earthy undertones.

(Basic examples of earth tones)

If you get anything in those colors, it will not only avoid you from looking "ashy" but it will complement your skin.

•Classic reds

Everyone loves a classy red lipstick. It looks good on almost anyone, but black girls have to be careful with shading

Make sure to stay away from Orange undertone lipsticks and look more towards purple/burgundy  tones which are earth colors.

(The two bottom rows are best for dark skin)

•Nudes (no,not those ones)

Along with the classy red everyone loves a very nice nude to wear with anything. Black Girls have to be very careful, because some nudes wont match and cause your lips to look dry.

Essentially, don't look for things labeled "nude" look for things labeled "brown"

Nude will always be nude for lighter skin, but brown comes in various shades that can be turned into nude

Last rule is

•BE CREATIVE!

Some times you have to mix different shades to get the perfect color

My mom has been mixing two different lipstick since she was going and still buys the same ones and mixes then together.

So if one lipstick is too dark and the other is too light combine them!
