—The bell finally rings for lunch. A mixture of hunger and anxiousness swirls in my stomach. I still don't know anyone here apart from the hot guy - Giovanni.
Eating alone doesn't bother me, I have things I can do. However, sometimes seeing everybody having friends, it does remind me that I am alone.
Without a second thought, I rush to my locker and then make my way into the cafeteria. It's exactly like every other school I've been to regarding cliques and who was friends with who.
The smarter students squashed into a corner and the popular's in the middle, all crowding around biggest table. Everyone else sits on the tables around in their small friendship groups but almost all spare glances at the popular table once and a while.
I grab some food and head outside but not before being glared at by Giovanni. He says something to the blonde Barbie who sits proudly on top of him. She giggles and looks over at me.
I ignore them, I don't have time for that. I make my way outside and find a place to sit in the daisy grass under an old oak tree. The sun is shining through the leaves on the trees making a shadowy pattern on the floor. I bask in the moment for a second before putting my earphones in and begin to eat my lunch.
Music really helps me, it helps to blur the awful world out. It helps me to not think about the past.
I startle when a large shadow appears in front of me blocking the sun. I half expect it to be Giovanni coming for round 2.
But when I look up, a girl stands there. She has jet black hair and is wearing only black clothes with a couple of piercings. Her whole persona screams bad ass much like my own.
"Cool shoes, I really want a pair." She says from above, eyeing up my boots. She moves close to me and sets herself down on the grass.
I move away from her to reclaim my personal space back. I know I should say thank you for her compliment but I simply stay silent instead. She may seem harmless but are her intentions pure? I wasn't sure if I wanted to find out.
"Oh sorry, I'm Raven. I came over to talk to you, you're like really cool. I saw you by yourself and one of the guys said you were the new girl. I wanted to know if you would like to be friends." She rushes and my brain barely has time to process what she is saying.
"Sure." I say suspiciously unsure of what is actually going on. Not many people in this generation are this blunt let alone nice. You know what they say keep your friends close and your enemies closer. I'm kind of hoping she's actually nice and we could be friends.
"I know being the new girl can be daunting why don't you come and eat dinner with us tomorrow? Oh! And I would also love a pair of those shoes how about a little shopping trip tonight with me." She babbles next to me, I only blink at her unsure of her intentions.
Why would a nice girl like her want to talk to me, let alone be friends with me? Nobody ever wants to be friends with me. I make sure my alter ego is big enough to scare people away.
"Oh, I'm sorry, I talk a lot when I'm nervous. So can we go shopping tonight? I would love a pair of those shoes." She says her eyes wide and she finally takes a breath after all this time of talking.
