"Dont drink, you're driving!" Jesse's loud voice somehow pierced through the booming music of the club.
"Dont you think thats a little unfair?!" I screamed back. He obviously didnt hear me. Whatever, i wasn't really into underage drinking anyways. Or just underage whatever in general.
Yet here I was.
Good job, Max. Good job.I decided to just hang around, i wasn't really a dancer either. Squirming through people, I reached the 2nd floor balcony across the dj's stage. Leaned forwards on the metal bars, i looked towards the stage and something, or more like someone, caught my eye.
Short hair, tatted up arm, amazing features even visible from a distance... it was Ruby Rose, with enormous headphones on and ruling the music of the dance floor. Then, by some out-of-this-world coincidence, she looked up towards the balcony.
Her eyes held mine and a slow smile broke on her gorgeous face. I felt as if i was in some sort of trance, i couldnt look away.
She pulled one hand away from the dj set, pointed and waved at me.My heart flipped upside down.
I was just standing where i was while on my phone, (ignoring the couple beside me who were basically moving on to 3rd base) when i felt a tap on my right shoulder.
And when i looked, I saw Ruby smiling down at me, her eyes and skin reflecting the lights of the club. My heart almost skipped a beat."What are you doing here?" She asked, her voice blending in with the music.
"I've been asking myself that exact same question." I said, making her laugh. "I didn't know you were a dj." I added.
"Well, there are a lot of things you dont know about me- Yet."
The booming music blasted into my veins, making my heart beat with it as well. That was what it was, it had to be...right?
Ruby then said something to me, but the music drowned everything out. All i saw was her mouthing the words."It's way too loud in here. Wanna get out of here?" I cringed as the music got even louder.
"Gladly." She said as she grabbed my wrist and started leading the way.
Ruby lead us into what i suspected was the back stage of the club. There was a tiny hallway with graffiti and doodles painted all over them. The music was barely audible, although the ground still vibrated to the music.
The hallway lead to a room where all the electronic devices and props were. There were two couches smack in the middle of the room."Sit." Ruby insisted. "Want a drink?"
"No thanks. Designated driver here."
I said. Ruby faced me with a cringing expression that seemed to say- seriously?"Who are you driving home, designated driver?" She slumped into one of the couches with a in her hand.
"My twin brother, Jesse." I said as i took a seat on the other couch.
"Twins, huh?"
"Yeah. You might have seen us, you know... back in school."
Ruby's eyebrows shot up in slight confusion.
"We used to go to the same school. Before you... um... dropped out."
"Ah." Ruby took a drink from her bottle. "Seems like forever ago."
"Does it? It's only been a year."
"A lot of stuff can happen in one year." Ruby smiled daringly at me as she looked up. "Even in one day."
I held her gaze until it was too much.
Coughing, i looked away."If you dont mind me asking, why did u leave school?"
"I stopped lying to myself. And i wanted to stop lying to the world, but school didn't seem like the place to do it. So i left."
She made it sound so simple. Maybe it really was.
"Max, have you ever seen the movie Leòn?"
"No, i haven't."
"In the movie, Mathilda pulls a gun up to her head and says- "I want love, or death." I think that's what I was feeling senior year."
I had no idea how to respond to that.
No idea what to say, or even what to feel. And to be honest, I had been feeling that way ever since i met Ruby.
