A/N: This was one of the images I thought about using for the cover. I still really like the image so I decided to post it here. This is my first fanfiction so hopefully it goes well. Hope you enjoy!
"Blue!"
Blue jumped up out of bed, her golden blonde hair sticking up. It took her a second to realize who had called her. "Coming, Mom!" She yelled.
She didn't bother to get dressed but ran downstairs to the kitchen. "Good morning, Mom." She gave her mother a kiss on the cheek. "What did you need?"
"Someone to help cook the special birthday breakfast was what I was looking for." Mom said as she pointed to the stove where eggs were already cooking. Blue's mother looked more frazzled than usual but what would you expect from the mother of three growing kids, two of which ate more like wolves than kids. Mom was also expecting another buddle of joy in a couple of months so it wasn't surprising that Mom needed extra help lately.
Blue smiled as she moved to the stove and began stirring the eggs. She was happy to help especially today. Her mother opened their small pantry and took out a half used box of pancake mix. She poured all the ingredients for the pancake mix into a bowl.
"Mom, we don't have anymore syrup." Blue told her. "Dad hasn't been able to find any."
Mom sighed. "Do we at least have butter?"
"No, we're out of that too."
Mom peered out the window by the sink, then closed it. "Go get the other windows."
Blue hurried and closed the other windows in the kitchen, her excitement growing. She loved magic.
Mom pulled out her lovely ebony wand from thin air. It was about a foot long with twirling vines and thorns curling around it. Mom had left Blue hold it once and as soon as she had touched it she felt her insides warm up like they would after drinking a nice cup of hot chocolate, which she'd only ever tried once or twice. But it was a memory she'd never forget. Mom raised her wand and sparkles rained down on the counter forming into a bottle of syrup and stick of butter. Mom then made her wand disappear once again. "Remember, Blue, never mention or do magic in front of anyone but me or Dad, alright?"
Blue rolled her eyes. She'd only heard this rule a billion times. "Yes, Mom."
Mom caught Blue's chin and stared into Blue's eyes. "Just because I remind you a lot doesn't mean you should throw me attitude. You know why you can't do magic around anyone."
"Yes, I know. No one else on the Isle of the Lost has magic and if anyone knew we did then we'd be harassed for it." Blue replied.
Mom looked at her daughter. It wasn't hard to believe that this girl was the daughter of the Big Bad Wolf and Little Red Riding Hood. Blue acted just like her when she was a teenager. But she definitely had some of her father in her too, just not as prominent as her brothers. "I love you, you know that, right?"
Blue nodded. "Of course, and I love you too."
Footsteps began banging down the stairs.
"Here comes the cavalry." Blue said.
"Mommy! Mommy! Mommy! Guess what! Guess what!" Blue's youngest brother Chann hopped off the last two steps.
"What, Chann?" Mom went over and picked him up.
"It's my birthday!" Chann yelled.
Mom laughed. "Of course it is! And the birthday boy gets to have the two things he requested. A pancake breakfast and cake with frosting after dinner."
Chann shrieked happily. "Yay-o-yay!" He hopped out of Mom's arms to his spot at the table.
Blue's twin brother Blaez zombied down the stairs. "Chann, you woke me up." He rubbed his eyes.
"Well, it's my birthday so I get to be LOOOOO!" Chann howled his 'o'. "Ud." He giggled.
"Quite a nice howl you've got there, Chann." Blue ruffled his cinnamon brown hair as she placed a plate of pancakes down in front of Chann.
Blaez plopped himself into a chair. "Practicing for howling with Dad and I haven't you?"
"Yep! I'm seven now and Daddy said that I could start going with you guys!" Chann took a bite of his pancakes. "Mmm, so good! Thank you, Mommy."
Mom smiled. "I'm glad my little cub is enjoying his breakfast. Blaez, Blue, you can get some now."
The boys wolfed down their pancakes and rushed up stairs to get ready for school. Blue finished hers and helped her mother with the dishes. She sighed. She was certainly not looking forward to school. What was the point of sitting in all those classes and not even getting to try some of the spells they talked about. Magic ran through her veins and she wanted to be allowed to release it not smother it.
She hurried to her room after cleaning. Ten minutes till school started and she hadn't even brushed her hair yet. It was sure a good thing that being late wasn't considered bad at this school. Blue brushed her hair quickly, grimacing at the particularly large knots. Tonight she'd be sure to put it in a bun so her curls didn't tangle so much. She put on her favorite pair of dark blue leggings covered in swirling vines with a blue miniskirt and a lighter blue shirt with a large moon and a howling wolf. A bit of dark red lipstick and eyeliner made her silver-blue eyes stand out even more. Blue stood in front of the mirror. Almost perfect. She grabbed the blue hood from a hook and put it on. She tugged the hood over her head and smiled, her silver eyes and red lips creating the perfect look of mystery and possibly a little evil. Blue Riding Hood was ready for school.
