Tonight is the night for the meteor shower. I have my telescope set up and ready to watch closely. I look into my telescope to see the stars and find something else instead. All the planets are alligned. Tonight must be special..
I heard Mom yelling from her room. I ran into the house, up the stairs, and into Mom's room. "Auggh!" The doctor just showed up, and he shoved me aside to get to Mom. "Leave son, your mother is in labor." Dad took me into my room. "Mom is having the baby Liam. I need you to stay in here for a little while." I nodded and he rushed back to her.
Sometime later, Dad woke me up. "Liam, would you like to see the baby?" I got out of bed, put my slippers on, and followed Dad. We walked, hand in hand, to Mom. When we walked into Mom's room she was holding the baby close. Mom saw us and smiled. "Liam, meet Lucinda, your baby sister."
As soon as the words left her mouth, the Earth began to shake. Then the meteor shower started. It was amazing. All too soon, it ended. Both the meteors and the shaking. They lasted around five minutes, oddly short timing.
"Would you like to hold your sister Liam?" I nodded then sat at the end of Mom's bed. Dad handed me Lucinda, and I could only stare at her with love and adoration. Lucinda is beautiful. She has astonishing sapphire eyes; came from Mom; and a little patch of bright, curly red hair; color from Dad, curls from Mom.
"Hello Lucinda." She opened her eyes at my voice, looked at me, and smiled adorably. I am filled with happiness as I smile back at her.

Everyday with Lucinda is filled with happiness and love. It has been almost three months since she has been born. That night was a mix of strange and wonderful things.
I have never had a dull or sad moment since then.
Until today... I am taken out of my classes early today. Mom must need me to watch Lucinda again, I thought. I thought wrong. It is Aunt Hannah I meet outside. She has tears glistening in her eyes and is carrying Lucinda. Aunt Hannah gives me Lucinda and wipes her hands on her blouse. She doesn't like babies.
"Liam, something- something terrible has happened." I am confused and by the looks of it, so is Lucinda. "Your parents... they're dead Liam." I- I cannot... "What do you mean dead?! They cannot be dead Aunt Hannah, I just saw them this morning!" She just shakes her head sadly and breaks down into tears.
I sit down on a bench, still holding Lucinda. My parents cannot be dead! They were smiling and waving goodbye to me while holding a smiling Lucinda just this morning. They cannot be dead!
My world is falling apart at the seams and I am slipping away. I started crying then. Lucinda looked at me, then seemed to understand I was sad and started crying too. She has never cried. My heart broke for her. Lucinda is all I have left. Aunt Hannah doesn't like babies or children, so we don't have her. I am the only one left for Lucinda.
I am her brother, and it is my duty to keep her safe and unharmed, well cared for and educated, healthy and happy, and above all, to stay with her. We only have eachother left.
