Chapter 2:

Mia and I arrived at home at around 8pm that night. I decided it would be a good idea to take her out for dinner that night considering my mom probably wouldn't have made any dinner for us tonight. As soon as we got to the door, I could hear the screaming from inside the house.

“C’mon Mia lets head over to Elise’s house “I stated and she sleepily walked next to me. Elise was our next door neighbor and also Louis little sister. Their family was always so nice and understanding when it came to Mia and I. I remember even before Mia was born, I would sneak over to there house late at night to hang out with Louis. I didn’t like staying at my parents house even when my mom and birth dad were together because it was just simply boring. His mom never cared so much that I was constantly over there as long as I made it home safely. Louis’ moms house was in between my step dads house and my old house. I always loved going back over to his house with his family, they were kind and really amazing.

I knocked on the door and Louis 15 year old sister Fizzy answered.

“Alison! How are you?” she asked and opened the door for Mia and I.

“We’re okay. How are you?” I asked as she pulled me into a hug. She was seriously one of the most amazing people.

“Ali!” I was now greeted by Margaret, their mother.

We exchanged greetings and started making small talk. Mia had wandered off to find Elise. Elise was around the same age as Mia and it was amazing how alike they looked. Both had long dark brown hair, blue eyes and freckles adorned both of their faces.

Margaret led me into their kitchen and Fizzy headed back up stairs. She started to make tea for me and started taking about what brought me back to her house. I bet it was a bit of a shock for me to show up at their door. I had not been here in over a month and then suddenly I show up one random night. I told her everything that night. I told her things about last night and many nights before that and soon I broke down. I couldn’t hold it anymore. I told her what happened that night that haunts me to this day and I told her about the accident.

She listened so intently the whole time. I have never come clean about my past and even though I refuse to tell anyone some certain details about my past, at least I was able to tell her about some bad memories.

It seemed like I was there for hours just talking but I was only there for about an hour and a half. I decided it was time to face my mother and my step dad. I went up the stairs to find Mia and Elise crashed on the couch in their loft. The T.V. was still on disney channel and all their toys were still out. I hear Margaret walk up the stairs behind me.

“She could stay here, if thats okay with you?”

I thought about it for a second before I agreed. If mom and Jean were still fighting, I would not want her over at that house.

I thank Margaret many times before collecting my things. I run back upstairs to see Fizzy, after getting my bag, to say good bye and talk for a little bit. Even though she was 4 years younger than me, she had the mind of a 20 year old I swear. She always understood and was more mature than any other highschooler I’ve seen.

I knock on her door and walk on in. She is laying on her bed reading "pride and prejudice". She has always been a book worm. I can't say I wasn't though, that one thing we could always talk about. I plopped down next to her and let out a sigh.

"Rough week?" She said and put her book down. I nodded staring at the ceiling. She laid down next to me, our feet dangling off the edge of the bed.

We talked for another 20 min before I really did have to head home.

"Hey are you sure you have to head home? I could use a sleepover." I felt bad leaving. Fizzy's friends just bailed on her and I could tell it was taking a toll on her. I decided it wouldn't hurt. I told her I have to talk with my mom and pack a bag.
