Thank you to everyone who voted on the book covers. There weren't that many votes, but all votes were on a single cover, and that cover also happened to be my favourite so I am changing the cover to that one. Thank you.
POV CANCER
Socks. Sweaters. Shoes. Slacks. Shirts.
I repeat these words as I pack for Paris (which is in 2 days, but the way).
Socks. Sweaters. Shoes. Slacks. Shirts.
Finally, my suitcase is packed with the five S's. Of course, along with my other necessities. "The simple Bare necessities, forget about your worries and your strife."
I find that I sing out loud a lot. Mostly Disney and old songs no one remembers.
Just when I am about to zip up my suitcase, my mother comes I to the room. She's holding her stomach, like its holding something precious. And it is, her lunch.
Just kidding, my mother is pregnant. We don't know if it's a boy or girl yet, but I'm kind of hoping for a brother. Someone I can bestow valuable 'guy stuff' upon.
"Hey honey." My mom says. She comes around to where I'm standing and gives me a letter. "It was in the mail. Do you know who it could be from?"
I look at it. It is addressed to me. But there isn't any return address or a signature. I shrug. "I have no idea."
My mom pats me in the head like she used to do when I was little. "Well, it's for you. Tell me who it's from later after you read it okay?"
I nod and turn the letter over and over in my hands. Soon my mom leaves and I'm left with a mysterious letter in my hands. I looked at my suitcase and decided to finish packing later, and open the letter.
The envelope is a cream, off-white colour. The ink in which my name is written on is in purple. I tear open the envelope and hear the satisfying ripping sound. The letter inside looks like it was ripped from a notebook. On it, in purple ink, is written this.
Cancer,
Meet us at Three Scoops. We are leaving.
From,
Aqua and the Squad
It should be Leo and the squad
But it's my pen
Stop writing everything your saying
It's YOU'RE not YOUR.
JUST STOP WRITING.
Says you...I shook my head. That ending definitely confirms that this was written by my friends. I wondered why they didn't send me a quick text, but I decided to ask them when I got there. But there was one problem. I couldn't leave my parents.
My mother only got pregnant recently so I didn't have to worry about me missing the birth, but she needed me. So did my dad, they couldn't support themselves on their own. Mostly because I did most of the cooking.
I wondered what could be so important that my friends thought I would be able to just leave. And then it hit me. Pisces.
The two of us haven't talked since I followed her out to the hallway when she ran away in anger. I thought I could calm her down, and I did. Until I made things worse.
The truth is I love Pisces. Not just because I've known her for so long, so it's like a 'friendship love'. I really love her. She's so kind and sweet, has never purposely done anything bad to anyone, and is the only person who will watch old movies with me.
But, when she kissed me I blanked. I didn't know what to do because I had been dreaming of that moment since forever, and I had never imagined it would play out the way it did. I know I should have said something. Something like: I love you too.
