One tragic afternoon would change it all.
I came home at the strike of 5.30, Alice was in her cot screaming, and Kim was nowhere to be seen. I picked Alice up and calmed her. I was furious that Kim would leave our darling Alice home alone even for a second.
I waited for Kim to get home, it was 6 when I heard her car pull up. She came through the door as if she hadn't done anything wrong. I asked her what she thought she was doing leaving our baby home alone, she said "I knew I wasn't going to be long, I thought Alice would be fine."
Hearing those words come out of her mouth took me back to the day my mother assumed the same. Though this woman was not my mother and that baby wasn't just any baby, she was my darling Alice.
I felt the rage spread throughout my body, everything that's ever happened to me, I've never reacted once. Well here it was, everything I had ever been through rushing back to me all in that one moment. The rage took over, I lost control of all the emotions I was feeling. My hands sprung out and latched themselves around Kim's neck, I squeezed and squeezed until she was lifeless.
