The Bad Boy is My Best Friend

Sofia's POV

Finally, lunch time. Maybe I'll get some peace and quiet.

I casually walked down the halls, hoping to avoid coming into contact with anyone.

"Yo! Rosena! Didn't I tell you we weren't  finished yet?" At the sound of Parker's smug voice, I stopped, took a deep breath and spun around to face him.

"Not sure. I don't really speak dumb jock." I gave him a sickly sweet smile and his smirk turned into an angry grin.

"Well, you don't need to understand what I'm saying for what comes next." His voice was so menacing that I took a small step back.

I cursed softly knowing he saw my small reaction and that encouraged him to slink over to me. He began to circle me, the bottom of his dirty sneakers squeaking against the now completely empty hall.

I drew in a deep breath as Parker roughly pushed me up against the steel lockers and leaned down so that we were face to face.

Looking around me, I saw that he had both his meaty arms on either side of my head and one muscular leg in-between mine, effectively trapping me.

"So, freak, why don't you show me just how freaky you can be." His hot breath carried his words to my ears, making me want to throw up. I recoiled from him, disgusted.

"Get the fuck off me, Parker. What the hell is wrong with you?!" Pushing against his chest and trying to kick his leg out from under him, I was really struggling to get away from him. But because of his sturdy build, he just wasn't moving.

I looked up only to see his face moving uncomfortably close to me and panic began to set in.

Is he really about to r....Oh hell no! Fuck this.

"GET OFF, PARKER! GET YOUR SLIMY MOUTH AWAY FROM MY NECK, YOU PSYCHO!" At this point, I was squirming, turning, and tossing my limbs everywhere but he was still placing nasty, wet kisses everywhere.

"Yo! I'm pretty sure she told you to stop. Or did you not hear her?" A calm but dark voice came from the right of us and I felt relief replace the panic. I turned to look at the new kid and silently begged him to help me.

"Mind your business, New Kid." Parker stopped only for a second to reply before getting back to what he was doing. Feeling helpless, I felt tears slowly pour out of my eyes as I squeezed them tightly, trying to think of only happy things.

It's okay, Sofia. Just think of the fact that your special tree is waiting for you and you'll be able to go there soon.

My eyes snapped open when I no longer felt Parker's body heat surrounding me. I drew in a relieved breath and then checked my surroundings.

My eyes widened at the sight of a knocked-out Parker, slumped against the wall across from me and a nonchalant new kid leaning against the lockers next to me. With his hands in his pockets and his feet crossed, he was the picture of unbothered.

"Thanks." Still recovering from what had almost just taken place, my voice came out soft and weak.

The new guy watched me carefully, his face looking very stoic before he shrugged.

"I hate bullies." His statement sounded so matter-of-fact that it confused me for a couple seconds before I let it be.

I walked over to Parker and sighed, thinking about what to do. Slowly bending down, I threw his arm around my shoulder and tried to drag him up. A hand on my shoulder stopped me and I turned around to see the new kid.

"What are you doing?" His expression told me he thought I was an idiot, and maybe I was, but he needed help.

"I can't leave him here. I'm going to take him to the nurse. I'm good friends with her and I'm sure she'll take care of him." I continued to drag Parker along as the new guy just walked along and watched.

The dude just snorted at my answer.

"Of course you are, Princess. That's what teachers' pets do. They make friends with all the staff." He rolled his eyes and I rolled mine in return, not wanting to hear anymore of his sarcastic banter.

"Whatever, New Guy. Either help me or leave me alone." I continued on dragging Parker, alone, and was surprised when I felt his weight being carried.

The new guy picked up Parker, swung him over his shoulder, and continued walking as if Parker weighed nothing.

"Come on, Teacher's Pet. Show me where to go." His deep grunt shoved me out of my subtle drooling over his strength and I hurried to catch up with him.

Our walk was awkwardly silent for the most part, apart from me telling him where to turn, and so I was glad, for once, that the school was small because we reached the office quickly.

"Hey, Sofia. What do you have for me here?" Nurse Jane stood up from her blue rolling chair, her hands on her hips and her dark, pixie-cut hair falling to one side as she titled her head.

I smiled and shook my head at her actions.

She is such a mom.

"Found him in the hallway. I, being the kind and caring person that I am, didn't want to leave this poor soul on the cold, cold floor." I was being very dramatic and theatrical but that was the dynamic her and I have.

"Uh huh. Sure you did. Just set him down on one of these tables and I'll write you two a pass to be late to next period so that you can go have lunch." She smiled, knowingly at me, and gave me a wink, to which I returned with a giant grin.

"Thank you so much!" I grabbed my pass and practically skipped outside, heading to my tree and forgetting all about the new guy.

My tree was just past the football field and just before the forest that started at the end of the grassy area. Sitting down under the shade that the big oak tree provided, I leaned against the trunk and looked out at the forest, wishing I could just disappear inside of it.

"Why are you staring at trees like you want to fuck them?"

Startled, I snapped my head to my right to see the new guy standing there, both hands in his pockets and his eyes looking between me and the trees.

"Why are you creeping around, Creeper?" I huffed and turned my head back towards the tree line, taking a small bite out of my green apple.

I sighed, frustrated, when I felt him sit down next to me.

"Why are you here, New Guy?" His stoic face seemed to crack a bit as his lips quirked up.

"I have a name, you know." He pulled out a sandwich and began scarfing it down.

"As do I but I'm not really interested in getting to know you or having any friends. That ad was ripped down long ago, Buddy." My voice showed my disgust with his eating but he paid no mind.

"Who said I wanted to be your friend? Cocky much?" His smirk was slightly off since his mouth was still full of food and there were crumbs littering his lips.

"Whatever. You're the one that followed me here."

We fell into a comfortable silence and I felt all of the tension from the first half of the day dissipate as I listened to the breeze blowing through the trees.

I felt something hard hit the side of my head and I looked down to see an apple core sitting next to my leg. My eyes snapped up to the amused party next to me.

"Whoops. Sorry." His voice was anything but repenting, making me shut my eyes, draw in a deep breath, and count to ten.

Nope. All that tension has returned and this guy is really grinding my last nerve.
