Six- Enigma

Pushing aside the icy feeling in my chest that set in as Kyson walked out of the room, I laid still on top of the mattress that suddenly wanted to swallow me. An odd rumbling filled the quiet room causing me to flinch. I shoved the covers off me and crawled my way to the head of the bed. With uneven breaths I looked around the room searching for where the noise came from. The rumble came forth once again before I could identify where it came from and it sounded so much closer this time. I sacrificed a glance at my stomach and was hit by the realization. The growls we're coming from my stomach.

What I'm experiencing must be hunger!

I tugged myself to the edge of the bed and rolled off it. Landing on the floor with a loud thud on my back I ignored the dull throb as I sat up.

"Enigma? What the hell are you doing?" A voice questioned while entering the room. Startled my claws grew from under my nails and dug into the floor. Kyson came to my mind as I remembered him scolding me for using my claws like a cat rather than a wolf. As fast as the thought came I shoved it out of my mind and faced Leena who stood in the doorway holding a sleepy looking Maccon.

A sense of deja vu hit me as I think of how this is pretty much how Leena has found me every morning this week since Kyson went back to work. He leaves early in the morning and is back by lunch to eat. The loneliness I feel when he leaves never goes away until he comes back, but each morning Leena finds me soon after Kyson leaves. Except this morning she caught me getting out of bed it seems.

"Uh, waking up?" I offer as I pull myself up onto my knees while giving her a goofy grin. She clicks her tongue and shakes her head in mock disappointment.

"I swear you give me so much more anxiety than Maccon does when it comes to getting hurt, and that's saying something," Leena states before gesture with her hand for me to follow her as she walks out of the room.

I do as commanded and follow the Luna to the kitchen as per our usual routine. She stops at the stairs and gives me a warning look before descending. I nod even though she can't see me.

The reason behind her look is because last week I wanted to go downstairs on my own and thought it'd be too much trouble to scoot down each and every step- so I rolled down them instead. Of course Caleb just had to walk by and get what he calls 'the scare of his life' and see me tumbling down the stairs dangerously. Though it didn't really hurt me Caleb was screeching and crying as he ran down the stairs after me. Then Kyson came out of nowhere and carried to me to the pack house's clinic room to get my wounds treated. After he scolded me very thoroughly he made me apologize to Caleb and promise the entire pack not to throw myself down the stairs ever again.

So, without further prompting I scooted my butt down each and every stair thankful that at least I wasn't climbing up them- which is ten million times harder. Once I made it to the kitchen I pulled myself onto my chair and waited excitedly for Leena to bring over my new favorite food over to the table. She told me that she wouldn't teach me to make it until I could stand up on my own and walk over to the stove, so until then I had to wait for her to serve it.

Maccon gurgled from his bouncer that was placed on the table. I stared at him feeling as out of place as I normally was around the baby. He was so small, young, and helpless.
