Chapter 11

Late fall, 2014

I stood in front of the mirror watching the woman wearing a floor length ivory gown covered under a robe. My hair was tied in bun on the side with a flower. I was so excited to be someone special today. I am going to be a new person with a new life waiting ahead of me.

“Knock, knock! Hey bride to be, you need to get ready. Your groom has been calling me to check on you. He might be mad at me if you’re gonna run late on the day of your so-called union. Come over here so the makeup artist can attend to you” Grace told me.

Grace was already wearing her baby pink strapless gown that had a waterfall chiffon skirt. She looked beautiful with her hair tied in a bun with braids at the sides. She kept on taking pictures of me while I was being made up.

I can’t help thinking that any moment from now, I’m going to be Katherine Alexis Rutherford. I’m getting all worked up suddenly. A tear fell from my eye but I was laughing at the same time apologizing to the makeup artist.

“Calm down, sweetie or you’ll need another round of makeup session.”

As soon as I got finished with my makeup, I took off my robe and took the bouquet that Grace handed me. We went hurriedly down to the bridal car where my parents were waiting. A lot of pictures were being taken as I arrived at the chapel that Trevor and I chose. My brothers even fancied a video of the ceremony. Our families and close friends were there to witness the exchange of our vows.

I looked at my groom standing in front of the altar. He looked so good. The sight of him made my knees weak. The wedding march was played by a string quartet on the side and the ceremony started. Nothing much was changed. We made the usual vows. I had to hold his hand throughout the ceremony; in exchange, he just smiled at me and mouthed the words I LOVE YOU.

After an hour, we were pronounced as Mr. and Mrs. Trevor Rutherford III. Everyone cheered as the preside said the lines Trevor could already kiss the bride. He took the veil off neatly and cupped my face between his hands. I smiled and closed my eyes as his lips touched mine. I put my arms around his neck and the cheer went louder. We broke the kiss and smiled at each other. We were finally tied to each other.

“You’re already mine” he whispered as he rested his forehead against mine.

“ You’re mine, too!” was all that I could answer.

All of us went to the reception that was held in a hotel. There, we ate, danced and made speeches for all the people who were present there. I cried a lot when my Dad made a speech for the both of us. Luckily, his speech wasn’t that long and after that, he gave me and Trevor long hugs.  We went around the hall greeting and thanking the guests for coming to our special day. The whole time we were walking, I could feel Trevor’s hand around my waist and I mirrored his actions.

When Trevor got the chance to dance with me, he held me close and whispered in my ear

“Are you sure this is what you want? You can always file for a divorce, anytime –“

I had to make him stop blabbering. I kissed him hard and he generously returned the kisses. He kissed my forehead and smiled at me. I can spell the word bliss written on his face. We both realized that we were now already tied up for life.

“I love you Lexi… I really, really love you…” With that he kissed me much deeper this time. We were oblivious to everyone around us. This was our wedding day after all.

“And I love you, too. I can’t wait for the honeymoon. Where are you taking me anyway?”

“You’ll see soon. It’s our own little paradise. Maybe you could be having our first baby after our honeymoon. I do hope our first is going to be a boy.” I giggled as I heard his reply.

“You’re thinking way ahead mister but I like what you’re thinking anyway.”

This is my own version of a blissful ever after. I realized that sometimes you don’t need to look for love in far places. Sometimes it’s just right in front of you. You don’t need to go begging for it; it comes to you eventually if you’re patient enough. I am looking forward to my life with my husband now and I’m going to try my best to let it stay sweet and nurtured the way that it has always been.
