Chapter 10
The next morning, I got up early and tried to prepare myself to meet Trevor at the hotel. I figured that Grace was either already in the apartment and she was just staying in the room sleeping or she wasn’t really there at all. I decided to wear something a bit sporty and less stylish. I had a pair of sneakers with some jeans and a shirt. (I had to think about the clothes to wear just in case I had to run around to chase him at the airport.)
As soon as I got in the taxi, I told him to step on it. I’m pretty sure that he got pissed with my manner but I didn’t care much. I knew what I had to do that time and I knew that I just wanted to look straight at Trevor’s eyes and tell him how much he means to me. I hope that he still has the same feelings for me because it would be so embarrassing to be rejected in front of other people.
The hotel wasn’t really full of busy people and lucky for me, the receptionist was a cool girl. She just gave me his room number without any qualm. She even winked at me. I took the lift and made my way to the 14th floor. My heart skipped a beat several times and I haven’t even seen him yet. I felt like the butterflies in my stomach were already making me sick but I had to get my nerves under control. The lift stopped on the 14th floor. I ran to the farther end of the hall and I was finally able to reach his room. I stared at his door. I didn’t know what was behind this door. There could be a girl there or he might not even be there anymore. I just had to prepare for whatever was coming my way.
I knocked on the door once. No one answered. I knocked the second time and this time it was harder. The knob turned and my heart flipped as well. He opened the door in shock to find me there standing. I was panting for sure.
“Lexi, what are you doing here?” he asked with a puzzled expression.
It’s now or never, Kat! Make your move!
“ I…uh… wanted to tell you something. I don’t want you to leave.”
I don’t know what made feel him more puzzled. He wasn’t really convinced of what I was saying. He didn’t trust the words that I just told him a few seconds ago. I needed to think about something that could make him feel the love that I felt for him.
Then minutes later, I touched his face with shaky hands. My eyes started to get teary and I pulled him close so that I could touch my forehead against his. I closed my eyes and let my tears fall as I now felt his hands on my face. I opened my eyes to see him and there he was crying as well. I moved my hands round his waist and pulled him closer for a hug. I rested my head against his shoulder. He breathed me in and I felt him kiss my hair. I hugged him tighter. He rested his hands at my lower back and kept on kissing my hair. I breathed the scent of him in. This was the moment that I’ve been dreaming of – me in Trevor’s arms.
“I’ve been waiting to hold you like this for years, Lexi” he whispered. His voice was gentle from all the crying that he had done earlier.
“Me, too. I just wanted you to know how much I’ve loved you all this time and how much I regret for not accepting it sooner. I came here to tell you that and to beg you not to go to Australia without asking me to be your wife!” I said.
He pulled away from me a little just enough to hold me in place and stare at me with a huge grin on his face. He pulled me inside of his room, closed the door and there, he hugged me tighter. I cupped my face and stared into my eyes. The shade of dark hazel no longer expressed worry and longing; they glinted now with happiness and love that he has for me. Seconds later, he touched his lips down to mine.
