                                                                        -Bristol, England. 1817-

A wounded doe is much like a human, similar in near every way. I noticed this long before I was vampire. Long before I knew the real ways of this Earth. Of this increasingly mortal world. I find it a shame vampires cannot be Mother and Father to their own children, even though I feel a close Fatherly connection to my progeny Eric, but it was ever fleeting as he grew apart. I could tell he was to leave soon as his "sister" Nora did. With this realization I find peace in knowing that I can feel what a human would when they let their children move out. I am proud, yet my heart aches. I would never tell him this, he would never tell me goodbye, I knew this.

"We should go out. I wish to hunt." I said, it was an excuse really. I wished to spend one last night with him, he planned to leave tomorrow night before I woke up, I knew it.

"Yes, I am growing hungry." Eric would reply, he towered over me as I sat staring into an open fire. I stood then, feigning a smile to him. He would return it briefly. We both headed through the front door of the flat I have come to attain. He would lead us both to a carriage. I had glamoured the driver to listen and drive us anywhere we pleased.

"Where to sirs?" The pathetic human asked. His voice was mono-toned and boring.

"There is a ball going on in the Farroh estate. A lot of people there." A lot of prey he meant. I nodded my head, climbing up the carriage and taking my seat. Eric relayed his orders to the driver and then took his own seat across from me, closing the door behind him. The carriage began moving with a "Hyah!" I tried to void my mind of all the faints of sadness that circled my mind, mocking my intellect.

"How did you know there is a ball happening tonight?" I asked, attempting to suppress these damned emotions.

"I was chatting to this very lovely lady and she let it slip before I drained her." Eric said, he then reached into his coat pocket and pulled out two invitations. Not that we needed them.

"Remarkable. You always seem to find the most enjoyable places, no matter what country we are in." I complemented. He smiled and looked out of the carriage's window as we came to a halt.

"We are here, sirs." The human yelled from the front. I patted my coat down and fixed my hair into a slightly more acceptable state. Eric did nothing to alter his appearance. He accepts that he is better looking as my rugged half. Exiting the carriage I saw in front of me was an impressive sight of a Gothic manor, cladded in fanciful lights and celebratory decorations. Many men and women of status were escorted to the entrance, they were all dressed in their best and prettiest. I walked down the gravel path towards the grand entrance, Eric was close at heel.

So far no one that interested me. Once We reached the entrance we were stopped by a butler for our invitations, Eric handed them to him with a smug look that said, "I am higher than you." He was clearly enjoying himself. I am glad.

Entering the foyeur I am still impressed, but I have seen it all before. Fancy Estate with fancy people. I needed to find the excitement. I broke away from Eric, he did not seem to mind. I knew none of the nobles would be interesting so I would not enjoy the hunt, I pride myself on being able to find the smartest and most suspecting doe. The one who knows they are being hunted but are helpless against it in every way. A smell from across the entirety of the ballroom I had entered caused my stomach to nearly burst out. It smelt of sex, young sex. But it was more than that. Fear. Fear, sex, and sage. The scent intoxicated me, I loved it. Everything about it was so... Wild
