Lockwood's POV
"Lucy?"
"Yes?" she asks, looking up from her sketchbook.
"Holly and I are going to the mall tomorrow. Would you like to come with us?" I ask hesitantly.
"What about George?"
"Ha, seriously? George, go to the mall? I think he'd rather face a Type Two alone," I say.
"Well, sure. I don't want to be stuck with him alone in this house," she replies.
"Okay. We leave at noon."
Lucy nods and went back to her sketch.

Lucy's POV
I'm standing in the front foyer with Holly, waiting for Lockwood.
"Hurry up," I call.
"Almost done!" he responds.
Holly nudges me. "I think I know what he's doing."
I turn to face her. "Of course. He's probably putting on his coat."
She shaked her head. "No, he's probably standing in front of the mirror flexing his arms to show them off."
"Oh, please. He wouldn't do that," I scoff.
"Come on, Luce. He has to have some fun somehow."
"What are you talking about?"
"It's obvious he likes you!" she exclaims.
I look her dead in the eye. "No, he doesn't."
"Sure, whatever," she laughs.
Lockwood comes down the stairs.
"Hello, ladies. What did I miss?"
"Not much," Holly replies.
"Let's go then."

Holly went to Sephora to look at makeup, and Lockwood and I went to a candy store.
Now the two of us are sitting right outside the food court, eating our candy. Lockwood is sucking on a lollipop, while I'm stuffing my face with jelly beans.
"So, Lucy," he begins.
"Hmmm?" I reply, trying my best to get all the jelly beans down without choking.
"Do you ever wonder what you'll do after you lose your Hearing and Touch?" he asks.
"No, not really. Why?"
He looks at me thoughtfully. "You've never wondered about what you'll do after this is all over?"
"No, why?"
"You've never thought about falling in love, starting a family, and living until you're old?"
"Let's see if I survive this job first," I joke.
"Well-" Lockwood begins.
"Hi, I'm back!" Holly interrupts.
I frown. What was he going to say?
"Hi, Holly," Lockwood says, standing up.
"So, what did I miss?""Not much," he replies.
She turns to look at me. "Luce? Are you okay?"
I focus on the situation at hand.
"Huh? Yeah, I'm fine. Why do you ask?"
"You were frowning."
"Don't I always?"
"Well, it was more of a grimace than a frown."
"Whatever, I'm fine."

When the three of us walk outside, we realize it's raining.
"Aw, come on," I complain.
Sadly, we took a taxi here, meaning we have to take a taxi back. We step into the rain. Lockwood and I are sitting on a bench while poor Holly has to try to flag down a taxi on a busy road in this rain. Lockwood tried to convince her out of it, but she insisted. Why, I do not know.
"Lucy."
I look up. Lockwood is looking at me intensely. "Yes?"
"Do you know what I've always wanted to do?"
"What?"
"Kiss somebody in the rain."
"Go kiss Holly then," I say.
He shakes his head and stands up. "No."
He reaches down a hand, waiting for me to take it.
I place my hand in his, and he pulls me up.
Lockwood pulls me close and whispers next to my ear, "I'd much rather kiss you."
I inhale sharply. He looks at me, leans down, and presses his lips to mine. Still surprised, I am frozen, stuck standing still.
He pulls away and looks at the ground. "It's okay if you don't like me though."
He steps away, but I reach out and hook my finger around a belt loop. I pull him closer, until we're an inch apart.
"Lockwood," I whisper.
"Lucy."
I stand up on my tip toes and kiss him. He automatically wraps his arms around my waist, and my arms wrap around his neck.
We pull away and look at each other.
"I like you, Lockwood," I say.
He brushes a strand of wet hair from my face. "I like you too, Lucy."
We were standing there, just the two of us in a little bubble, while the rain fell around us, on a busy London street.
It was perfect.
