"Mom, mom! Hurry, it's computer time!" A little boy with a head full of messy, green hair, bright, jade eyes, and freckles that dotted his cheeks exclaimed, jumping up and down as in-hand he held an action figure of his most favorite superhero; All Might.
"Already, is it time?" A woman in her mid-thirties with pale, leaf green eyes and dark, straight, green hair asked, lowering the towel and wet dish she was holding to spare a glance at the nearby clock. The two, black hands read the time, which was of course five-thirty in the evening.
"Hurry, or we'll be late!" The young boy cried as he turned on his heels, racing off in a flash, while moving his action figure up and down in the air in a wave motion.
"Izuku, wait, slow down!" The woman said with a small laugh as she placed the damp towel and plate down, hurriedly following after her small son through the hallway he had disappeared down while fixing the light pink, long sleeved sweater she was wearing. After a few seconds, Izuku's mother entered the smallish bedroom and managed to get the computer, which was sitting on a small, wooden desk, up and running with her son's favorite scene of All Might saving people from a disastrous wreckage.
"When I grow up, I want to be just like him! I'll save people with a smile on my face! I'll be the greatest superhero ever!" Izuku shouted excitedly, flashing his mother who was standing nearby at the doorway a smile, who immediately smiled back in return.
"I'm sure you will, sweetheart, you'll be the best hero," She spoke softly, though a hidden emotion lie deep within her pale gaze. She watched quietly as her son turned away and joyfully continued to watch the scene which was displayed on the computer's small, pixilated screen.
Computer time.. I loved watching that one scene of All Might.. He was everything I ever wanted to be when I was a kid.. I wanted to save people just like he did..
Days had now passed since the young child had watched All Might on his computer. Izuku was now sat on a little, wheeled, metal stool, quietly glancing around the room he and his mother were in. He messed with the bottom of the red shirt he wore, feeling a slight tension in the air.. he knew something was wrong. He sighed softly and kicked at the air lightly with his green sneakers, which had white laces and a white stripe down the top. Besides him stood his mother, who wore a nervous expression on her soft features. The room they were in was a patient room, and the room consisted of a white tiled floor, white cabinets and shelves, a white countertop that along with it had a metal sink. The walls were painted a sky-blue, which was starting to chip away and would need to be repainted soon. On the wall before the two were two light boxes, which on them had an x-ray Izuku's left and right foot. The young boy raised his gaze up to look at the two x-rays, wondering why the doctor had to only x-ray his feet, not his whole body.
"Mom, will the doctor be in soon?" The messy haired child asked, looking over at his mom with a flash of hope in his eyes. They were at the doctor for a reason, they were there to figure out when Izuku would gain his awesome quirk! The woman blinked at her son, seemingly lost in her own thoughts for a moment. She then smiled at her young son and ran a hand through his hair.
"I'm sure he'll be in here soon, the nurse just went to go get him," She responded to her son's question reassuringly. At that moment there was a knock on the wooden door, which was only a couple feet away from the two. Both of them looked over, Izuku could barely hold in his excitement! Finally, he would find out when he would get his quirk! A man who looked to be in his mid-fifties and graying hair entered the room, wearing a pair of jeans and a white lab coat, which he wore a black shirt underneath.
"Good morning, Mrs. Midoriya, sorry for the wait." The man said with a friendly smile, walking over to a nearby chair which was near the x-rays and sat down. Izuku's mother sat down in the seat which was next to her son, seemingly more calm at the sight of the doctor.
"Good morning, Dr. Yeun, and no worries. Have you anything on my son's quirk?" She asked him straightforwardly, the worried look returning to her pale eyes. Dr. Yeun sighed softly at looked over at Izuku, a sorry look in his own sea-blue eyes.
"Yes, I do," He said, looking over at Mrs. Midoriya. "Though, before I do tell you, may I ask what your quirk is?" He asked her, catching her off guard slightly.
"Well.. I can levitate things towards myself. Why, does this affect Izuku's quirk?" She asked him with concern laced in her voice, putting an arm around her son's shoulders. Izuku blinked confusedly, wondering why the two adults had become so somber, what was wrong?
"Well, children usually develop similar quirks like their parents possess, but this is not in your son's case," The doctor said as a serious look crossed his face. With a hand he motioned towards the two x-rays behind him, continuing to speak. "Ever since quirks began to appear, we have been researching similarities and differences between those who have quirks, and those who do not. People who usually have quirks only have one joint in their pinky toe, but your son has two, like the twenty percent of people who do not have quirks," The man explained as he looked back over at the two. "I'm sorry to tell you this, but your son will grow up without a quirk."
"Oh my gosh.." Mrs. Midoriya whispered, in total shock, she couldn't believe that her son wouldn't have a quirk. Her gazed shifted over to her son, watching him for a split second. Izuku sat there, staring at the doctor before him. The young boy had gone stiff and was shaking ever so slightly, his eyes glittered with gathering tears.. his dreams, his hopes, everything he had ever wanted to be, had shattered right before him. His mother immediately pulled him to her, holding him tightly. "I'm so sorry, Izuku.." she whispered as she looked over at the doctor once more. "Thank you, Dr. Yeun, we'll be going now." She said softly as she scooped up her distraught son into her arms.
"I'm sorry, Mrs. Midoriya, there's nothing we can do." The man spoke as he stood up, looking at the woman who stood a couple of steps away.
"I know. I'm sorry that you can't either," She said in a quiet voice as she turned away, walking out of the room with her son in her arms, without another word. The drive home was complete silence, there was nothing the poor woman could do to comfort her son, not yet. As soon as the two of them got home, Izuku ran away from his mother and into their small home. His mother frowned and ran her fingers through her hair, pushing a couple of strands out of her face.. She still couldn't believe that her own son wouldn't have a quirk, when even she /and/ her husband had one. She walked inside the house after a minute or two, hearing a noise coming down the hallway, from her son's room. She placed down her black purse which she had brought in from the car and slowly made her way down the hall. Their walls were painted white with a wooden frame, but now all of a sudden their home seemed a lot older and worn down than it actually was. After a moment the woman made it to her son's door, which was cracked open the slightest bit. Carefully and quietly she took ahold of the golden doorknob, pushing the door open just a bit more. She peered inside, seeing that her son's computer was on.. It was playing the scene of All Might, her son's favorite.
"See, mom.. All Might saves people with his quirk.. He smiles, no matter how hard things get.. He always smiles," Her son suddenly spoke, looking over at his mother who stood at the doorway. She quickly placed a hand over her mouth, seeing the tears that were streaming down Izuku's cheeks and the forced smile that he was wearing. The small boy was trembling, his hands gripping onto the arms of the chair he was sat in. His head was lowered though, which caused his tears to slip from his cheeks and fall onto the light gray shorts he was wearing. The woman instantly went over to her son and fell onto her knees, pulling him into a hug. She had begun to cry too, which only caused her son to lean into her embrace and cry harder than before.
"I-I'm so sorry, Izuku. I wish things could be different, I-I wish you had a quirk like the rest of your friends," She sobbed, holding her broken son in her arms. Izuku was beginning to choke on his tears now, just barely managing to catch his breath.
I remember that day.. the day I was told I wouldn't have a quirk.. That I would never be like All Might..
