The day was practically perfect, a little cloudy, but the sun was still shining. This day was absolutely perfect for newly weds Matthew and Emily Luck. Why? Their longly awaited daughter was finally on her way!

*Matthew's POV*

"Matthew, it's time!!!!" Emily screams in pain. I grab the pre-packed diaper bag, the extra clothes for Emily, and the camera to take pictures of our baby girl.
Shit! I am so caught up in the moment that I completely forgot it was happening RIGHT NOW!
I get Emily in the car and drive her to the hospital which conveniently isn't too far away.

"Sir, I'm going to need to take your wife to the prep room, meanwhile you put this on." Says an average height man with brown hair that is starting to turn grey at the tips. The brown isn't a nasty color, but the kind of brown that shimmers gold in the right amount of sunlight. He wheels Emily off and I make my way to the mens' bathroom just down the corridor. I then find my way back to the room they have set up for Emily.

Don't get me wrong the whole process is a marvelous thing, but nothing can beat the extraordinary moment when they finally hand you your baby girl. She fits perfectly inside my arms like it was meant to be. Of course it was meant to be what am I thinking? She is beautiful, just like her mother. From the short amount of time she had her eyes open I could tell her eyes are the bluest of blues. I couldn't ask for anything better. For a moment everything was perfect, but then I started to panic. All of these thoughts raced through my mind. What if she doesn't like me? What if I'm not a good father? Someday my beautiful baby girl will leave my arms for another man's. I feel a tear trickle down my cheek with just the thought of her leaving me. Emily seems to be reading my mind as she says,
"Matthew, you will be an incredible father."
"Are you sure?" I question,"She was born literally ten minutes ago, and I'm already thinking about her leaving me." I confess. She opens her arms to me as if it were my cue to lay in the bed beside her.
There is a small pause, but it isn't uncomfortable, I could never be uncomfortable with Emily.

"She's perfect." we gush in unison, causing Emily to let out a short giggle. We inch in and kiss lightly, it's the perfect moment and I wish I could stay here forever. My thoughts are interrupted when the doctor rushes in.
"I'm afraid we need to take Emily to the ER for emergency surgery, she is getting blood clots in her abdominal area near her uterus caused by the surgery she had a couple years ago to remove her appendix." The doctor continues, "These clots are caused by too much scar tissue that needs to be removed immediately or it could lead to further health problems."
I didn't even get to say goodbye they rushed her off leaving me with my beautiful baby girl in my arms, and she begins to cry.
"Oh no please don't cry sweetheart, everything will be alright." Will everything be alright? A little voice in my head adds.
I mentally tell the voice to shut up, and sit down to rock Addi to sleep.

After hours of agony the doctor comes back.
"Good news, the surgery went great and she can be released in a couple of days." He states very professionally.
"Okay, thank you sir." I respond trying to sound professional, and mature.
"Not a problem Mr. Luck, now please excuse me I have another patient I need to check up on." He utturs urgently.
"Okay, thanks again." Is all I can manage to say.
I go to the front desk and ask for directions to the room Emily is resting in. Either the receptionist was shit at giving directions or I just couldn't follow them. Regardless of who was to blame, I got lost multiple times. Finally finding Emily's room, I open the door and walk over to the chair. Just as I'm about to sit down Emily speaks.
"Hello, do I know you?" Emily says and suddenly I am tense. The doctor never said anything about memory loss! At that moment I can't even explain how I was feeling.
"I'm just shitting you Matthew, lighten up." She says with a giggle. A sigh of relief escapes my mouth, so loudly I think she heard it.

"You didn't actually fall for it did you?!" She questions making her laugh even harder.

After hours of casual chit chat, the doctors come back to take the baby. I tried to resist, but Emily convinced me it would be alright and that it's just regulations or some shit. I can take care of her, she's my daughter for Christ's sake!

Before I know it, I am waking up to sun light beaming through the small crack between the two curtains of the hospital window. I must have fallen asleep while talking to Emily.
