Kristen sat in the waiting rloom, spinning her glistening engagement ring around her finger. Brian sat next to her, oblivious as to what was going on.

"Not that I'm complaining, but why did you want me to come with you to your doctor's appointment?" asked Brian, resting his hand on Kristen's, causing her to stop fidgeting.

"I just wanna keep you up to speed on everything," smiled Kristen, only partially telling the truth.

"Kirsten Severide?" called the nurse, signaling it was her turn to see Dr. Rhodes.

"That's me," stated Kristen as she stood up and followed the nurse, Brian at her side.

They walked hand in hand down the hall and into the exam room. Kristen hopped up on the table as Brian sat down in the chair next to her. He could sense something was wrong, Kristen normally wanted to go to all her appointments alone. Brian ran his fingers through his sleek brown hair as he tried to figure out what was going on. His thoughts were forgotten when the door swung open and Carly walked in.

"Hey Kristen. Nice to see you Brian," greeted Carly as she set her laptop down along with a clipboard of paperwork.

"Nice to see you too," replied Brian, watching intently as Carly sat down and wheeled her chair over to the two of them.

"Kristen, we got the results back. It's stage four," informed Carly, causing Kristen to squeeze Brian's hand, tears threatening to fall.

"What's stage four? Kristen, sweetheart, you're scaring me," confesses a confused Brian.

Kristen opened her mouth to speak, but nothing can out. She looked over at Carly and nodded, silently asking her to break the news. Carly took a deep breath before turning to look at Brian.

"Brian, Kristen's been seeing me the past few weeks for testing and such. Today we have finally diagnosed her with stage four Melanoma," explained Carly as Brian looked up at Kristen with tears in his eyes.

"Cancer? You have cancer?" asked Brian, a single tear running down his cheek.

Kristen nodded before finally opening her mouth to speak, "Brian I'm scared."

He pulled her into his arms as she sobbed into his chest. Carly stood up and left, giving them a moment to react to the news. Brian stroked Kristen's hair as a few tears of his own fell onto her shoulder. Her body wracked sobs as he hugged her tight.

"It's okay baby. We're gonna get through this. You're gonna be okay."

Miles away Corin and Jay were arguing in his office. The blinds were drawn as Corin stood there, waving her arms in frustration as Jay sat on his chair, arms crossed.

"Anybody else! I'll take anybody else but don't give me that bitch!" yelled Corin, crossing her arms.

"She's a good detective Corin. It's just until Skylar get back," explained Jay, starting to get irritated.

"You know what she said about Juliana and about your niece. How the help could you let her work with us?" asked Corin, feeling betrayed.

"It's work Corin. It's gotta get done."

"I see what this is. You still have feelings for Regan," lied Corin, knowing it would press his buttons.

"I do not and you know it. I love Erin."

"Then why don't you just let Antonio replace Skylar while she's gone and have Adam stay and help. It's an easier solution that pleases everyone one."

"Fine. I'll talk to them, but you need to remember at work, that I'm in charge. Got it?"

"Yes sir."
