In the beginning, the world was naught but dust, the remnants of the constant battle of two Gods. The Gods were brothers, the older brother the God of Light, and the second The God of Darkness. The older brother found joy in creating forces of life. The younger spent his time creating forces of destruction. Naturally, this led to many disagreements. The older brother would spend the days creating water, plants, and wildlife. At night, the younger brother would see all this and become enraged, destroying all that the older brother had made by bringing drought, famine, and fire. But life always returned. So, one night, the younger brother created something that shared his desire to destroy everything, and named them the Creatures of Grimm.
Seeing what the younger brother had made, the God of light began making stronger forces of life, but they were all destroyed faster than they could be made. The older brother knew this feud between the remaining forces of life and the Creatures of Grimm could not last forever, so he made a proposition to his younger brother: To build something together, which had the ability learn about itself and the world around it, but also the ability to choose whether to create or destroy, to follow Light, or Darkness. The younger brother agreed, and thus was born humanity. The Gods bestowed upon humanity Four gifts; Knowledge, Choice, Creation, and Destruction. The older brother named the world Remnant, for it was the remains of the battle between them, then the two Gods retreated, never to heard from again.
As man learned about the world around him, he discovered that the forces of Grimm could not be vanquished. This brought despair to the people, which strengthened the Grimm, forcing mankind to search for new ways to combat the Grimm that would hopefully one day destroy them.
Man began to dig through the earth, hoping to find some new strong metal that would permanently kill the Grimm. What they found instead was a crystal that would help even the odds. They named it "Dust". By definition, Dust is a naturally occurring energy propellant triggered by the energy that naturally surrounds man in both his forms, Human and Faunus. This energy is called Aura. But this is hardly all that Dust can do.
Dust was discovered in four different types, and could be combined both naturally and synthetically to create new, stronger types, each with different properties. For example, the basic types, Fire, Water, Wind and Earth, could be combined to create another type of dust. Fire and Wind made Lightning, Water and Wind made Ice, and so on. And from the day it was mined, man has put it into many different uses.
At first, man had to learn to be disciplined enough to use it in its raw form. To an inexperienced user, this could prove deadly in the wrong environment, and in the wrong hands, it could even be infused with the human body. Eventually, man learned how to weave Dust into clothes, and then how to use it as a tool. This knowledge put the discovery of technology into overdrive. Now, Dust is used in almost everything you can see in modern society; Andriods, Airships, Boats, and Firearms.
The discovery of firearms brought with it another application of Dust: ammunition. Today's warriors need only choose the right cartridge and pull the trigger, but it is not uncommon to still find those whose use Dust in its more basic forms. Despite constantly learning and finding more uses for Dust, the origin of it remains unknown, along with the secret of how to ultimately defeat the Grimm.
Now mankind stands united, dedicating all of humanity's efforts to fighting the Grimm, and finding a way to ultimately defeat the forces of evil. But until that secret is discovered, the four Huntsmen Academies constantly train the strongest warriors, Humans and Faunus alike, for the sole purpose of fighting the Grimm. These are the stories of a few of those warriors.
