Shade woke up in the dark. He'd managed to get a spot on the stage, towards the back where nobody was. It helped him feel more isolated. There's so many people here. A lot of them probably deserve to be here much more than I do, so why did Ozpin choose me? He sighed. I suppose I will just have to find out with time.
A light flickered to life behind the backstage door, casting a small sliver of white light onto the backstage floor. He sat up, intrigued by the change. The doorknob slowly turned counter-clockwise as the door quietly creaked open. An older man wearing a red uniform slowly moved through the door, shutting it quietly behind him. He continued to move quietly to a corner of the backstage area as Shade continued to watch him. He was obviously either a professor or a member of the school's staff. A panel lit up in front of the man, silhouetting him and highlighting his shorter stature. He tapped at the screen a couple times, bringing the lights to life. They faded from darkness, slowly illuminating the ballroom. The man walked over to the microphone and waited for a short amount of time. Shade got out of his sleeping bag as quietly as possible. I'll take that to mean it's time to get moving.
"It is now time for all of you to wake up. So... wake up. Come on, get up. That's it, hop up to your feet and squint at me as I continue to tell all of you to wake up. If you see someone nearby still sleeping, wake them up, because if by the time I count to ten you aren't all standing up squinting at me with your sleepy eyes, I will increase the volume of this microphone until you all wake up. So. 1..."
A large number of the sleeping students had woken up by this time and were looking around, confused. Shade had finished rolling up his sleeping bag and stacked his pillow on top, sneaking off the stage to blend into the crowd.
"...2..."
This number came slightly louder than the previous one as students scrambled to wake up those around them. Confused students stood up one by one, struggling to keep themselves upright.
"...3..."
By this time, students were groaning and mumbling as they continued to wake up. Shade went and began to help wake up a student who had isolated himself.
"...4..."
Shade hurried to the student. "Hey! Come on, you need to wake up, man." Shade cautiously placed a hand on the shoulder of the student, shaking him gently.
"...5..."
By this time students were getting loud in their efforts, attempting to speak over the blaring speakers. The boy Shade had been shaking woke up. "...huh?"
"Wake up, man."
The boy sat up, confused but awake.
"...6..."
Shade got up quickly, hurrying to help wake up other students.
"...7..."
By this point, most of the students were standing. Shade continued to walk around the room amongst the crowd, shaking the shoulders of those he found in isolated areas that were still asleep.
The man on stage saw that the majority of the students were indeed standing, and smiled, decreasing the volume to a more acceptable level. "Good, you all beat the last batch to roll through here by a whole two numbers. Now, to get to business. My name is Professor Port. Today I will be taking you all to the locker rooms, where you will all change into your combat gear and prepare for your trials. If you'd like, there are showers, and the first trials are not for an hour, so you can all use them. Breakfast will be brought to you as you wait for your trials. Are there any questions?"
