I awake to my head resting against a chest and the warmth of another person making me snuggle deeper. I breathe in the familiar smell of old spice shampoo and the faint hint of tobacco. I look down at my stomach, accepting that inside of there lives a baby. A baby that is half of me and half of his or her father and I feel a giddy grin find its way on my face. I know it is going to be so complicated and insane, but this little one is worth it in every way. I feel a hand on my stomach and I look up see Kenny's soft sleepy smile. I place my hand on his cheek and brush my thumb against the smooth skin. He places a soft kiss on my lips, the smile grows on both of our lips.
"Good morning, beautiful." He whispers and I swoon at the sleepy roughness of his voice. I place my head against his chest again and I kiss right where his heart beats.
"Kate, if you know what is good for that boy sleeping in your bed, I would tell him to leave before your daddy catches him here. The best way would be out the window and out to that little barn where you like to hide vehicles." Caroline says softly, awaking us from our own little world.
"Oh and good morning, Kenny. I would invite you down for breakfast, but I doubt Kate's father would appreciate that." She greets him with a southern charm that she has taught me. Kenny smiles at her softly and waves in greeting. She closes my door, gently and Ken rises from the bed, making me whine in protest. He chuckles softly at my scrunched nose and kisses the top of it.
"Sweet thing, I really got to get out of here before your dad kills me, okay? I wish I could stay here all day in bed with you. Especially if we were making more babies." He delivers the words with a smirk present on his plump lips. I roll my eyes at his words and I watch as he pulls on his jeans. I ponder the words to tell him what I need to.
"Hey Ken...thank you." I pause, trying to put my immense gratitude into words.
"You didn't have to do this, yet here you are again. Saving me all over again and I just can't thank you enough, baby." I murmur, looking him in the eye with tears welling up in my eyes.
"I wouldn't have it any other way, darling. I wouldn't change us for anything." He speaks so confidently, passion and love present in his tone and his eyes. I swallow softly and I rise from the bed to wrap my arm around him once more. He drapes his arms around me and I look up at him, beaming. He leans down and kisses my lips with a sweetness that has my stomach fluttering. He pulls away to grin down at me and he kisses my forehead before turning to my window. I rush to the window to watch him go and I place my hand on my flat stomach. He blows two kisses before taking off at a jog and the disappearing from sight. I sigh in complete and utter bliss at the thought of last night. I walk to my bathroom to pee and I freeze at the sight of the three positive pregnancy tests, resting on my counter. I panic at the thought of my mom or dad finding them and I find a box in a cabinet in my bathroom and hide them in there. I take a deep breath and go to the bathroom. I wash my hands and brush my teeth. I pull on an old muscle tee with a sports bra and one of my favorite pairs of jeans. I walk down the stairs into the kitchen, kissing the tops of my little brothers' heads as they chow down on waffles. My dad stands at the stove, his dark hair still a mess from sleeping. He shoots me a bright grin and opens his arms for a hug. I rush into his waiting arms, but I cannot help the guilt that fills me. Would he still hug me if he knew I am pregnant? He kisses the top of my head and turns back to his eggs. Waylon rushes to my side, his large feathery tail wagging like crazy as he lick my hands. I lean down and place a kiss on his ebony snout; he dances around my feet in response. I smile down at him and ruffle his brown fur. I pull on a pair of boots and walk out of the door to breathe in the fresh air.
A soft breeze blows through the trees, pressing a soft cool kiss to my face as it makes the ferns rustle at my feet. I stride through the damp grass, shaded by large oak tree in the yard, crossing the gravel driveway and into the barn. A chorus of eager nickers greet me as I look at the beautiful horses waiting for me in their stalls. I walk to the closest stall and I pat my dappled grey gelding, Ace, on the head. I place a soft kiss on his pink muzzle before moving to the stall next to his. The impatient young mare presses her chest against the door, rubbing her buckskin head against my shoulder. I pet her soft head and play with Tess's black forelock. She playfully lips my shirt, and I gently push her head away after kissing her soft nose. I move to the stall next to her where the large dapple bay looks at me with his soft brown eyes. I press a kiss to the middle of his head and press my face against the soft hair on his head. Sometimes I swear Dallas' big brown eyes can see right into me and know exactly what I need. I take his halter off of his stall and slip it onto him before leading him into the grooming stall. I hook him up to the ropes and then halter the two other horses and lead them into a large pasture laden with grass in addition to a stream and trees where they dash off to run and squeal at each other. I walk back into the barn after watching my other two babies playing. I run a brush over Dallas' shining coat, ridding it of the shavings from his stall. I place a heavy western saddle on his back. I put on a bridle and walk him into the indoor arena. I hop on his back and he walks forward in a gentle silence and remains steady underneath me.
