The note in the mail

Tell me what life you're living that's considered normal. No, seriously. Or better yet, where are my parents and any one else I'm related to besides my one aunt? I have SO many questions, but not a single answer.
Thoughts and questions like these run through my head a billion times a day, but sometimes, like now, they completely consume my brain.
I'm snapped from my mind by the sound of my older brother muttering curses under his breath.
"Damn idiot, I had my turn signal on."
"What?" Dallas looked over at me in the passenger seat, probably assuming I hadn't heard him.
"I switched lanes, and Mr. Fucker decided to give me the finger." I couldn't help but giggle.
"So what's up with you?"
"What do you mean?"
"You're awful quiet. I played that song you hate and you didn't even blink."
"Oh. I don't know. Just thinking I guess."
"Wanna share?"
"Mhm, maybe later." I shrugged it off gently, hoping not to hurt his feelings. I had no intentions of telling him my thoughts.
We pulled into the garage and parked Aunt Bridgette's car.
I grabbed my bag from the back seat and made my way inside.
"Hey, Skylar. You and Dallas got some mail." Aunt Bridgette sounded happy enough, but her expression was confused.
"Thanks." I suddenly understood why. In my hand was a simple piece of paper folded in half with the crease taped shut. It couldn't have been mailed.
Aunt Bridgette narrowed her blue eyes and tucked a strand of blonde hair behind her ear.
"Are you going to read it?" She pressed.
"I'll wait for Dallas. It's for both of us." I ran a finger over the pretty writing on the front that held both of our names.
"What's that?" Dallas questioned, waltzing past me and plucking it from my hands.
"A letter, I think." Aunt Bridgette leaned over the counter, resting her elbows down and eyeing us carefully.
I followed my brother to her couch and sat beside him as he opened it.
We both scanned it with wide eyes.
My two beauties.. I know you don't remember me, but I've always remembered you. Just know, your birthdays are on their way, but this one will be different. I can't explain yet, but you'll soon understand. Trust me, your father and I never left you willingly. I hope you can forgive us. We love you two more than you know.
Mom&Dad
"Holy fuck." Dallas whispered.
"Mom and Dad???" I stared at him and immediately looked at my Aunt.
Her eyes grew wide and she stood upright.
"I'm going out to the garden." She turned on her heel, grabbing her gloves on the way out.
"What the hell are they talking about, Dallas!?"
"How am I supposed to know!? What the fuck do we do?"
"I don't know!" I wailed as I jumped to my feet. Dallas followed, scanning the paper again with a fierce grip.
He ran a stressed hand through his fawn hair, tearing his eyes from the paper.
"How did they know we were here? Where are they? What's happening on our birthdays? Wha-wh-what what-" Dallas sputtered out questions faster then I could understand. Not like I could answer any of them.
Now it was me gripping at my hair. I tugged the blonde strands back into a ponytail and let it fall loose down my back.
"Do you think we'll see them?" I whispered. Dallas's eyes grew wide as he considered the possibility. I never got an answer.
I started to think about what our parents said about our birthdays. Dallas was two years and one minute older than me at 17. But, we had different birthdays because he was born at 12am and I was born at 11:59pm.
Complicated, right?
But what could they possibly mean?
"This one will be different"
How? Where was the explanation?
Then it struck me.
"Dallas,"
"Yeah?" He tore his eyes from the space he was staring into.
"Aunt Bridgette.. She's Dad's sister, she has to know something."The words were hardly out before Dallas was out the door. I followed him to the garden where our Aunt was on her knees picking at teeny tiny weeds growing by her flowers.
"So... What'd the letter say?" Aunt Bridgette asked casually, sitting up from her task. Dallas handed her the letter.
"Yeah." Aunt Bridgette handed it back with a sigh.
"Your father told me about this."
"About WHAT?" Dallas and I yelled in harmony.
"Well, I don't know everything and I can't really tell you yet." She told us sheepishly.
"Why not?" Dallas fired back.
"Kind of sworn into secrecy until you two know for yourselves."
"I'm so confused." I said, exasperated.
"I know, hun. Trust me, when you know, I can explain everything. That's why you're here with me." Her pale eyes and her tone softened in sympathy.
"And we'll know on our birthdays?" Dallas asked.
"Yes. Just one more week. Just hang on, okay?"
"Okay." We gave in and sulked back into the house.
"Just one more week." I said to Dallas.
"It's going to be one hell of a week."
