It was raining, pouring even, the sound like a thousand people marching at once through the bleak sky of California, but not even the weather could bring Tyler's mood down today. Most of the time, after a long day of working at the small café down the road, Tyler was exhausted. But today, all he could think about was Josh. His perfect face. His incredible laugh. Everything about the teen just infatuated Tyler. He wanted to hear that cheerful, smooth voice again. See those caramel eyes. He didn't have time to think about anything else. Needless to say, he was ecstatic when he bounced through his front door. His mom, used to seeing the young boy walk in tired and depressed, was more then happy to sit down with her son, grab some tea, and listen to him gush about this absolute angel he met while working today. He described josh in perfect detail, from the way his eyes crinkled when he laughed to how he walked with a slight limp. Tyler would have to look into that. Then, with nothing but pure joy filling his eyes, he held out his hand for his grinning mother to read. There, as bold as it was when it was written, was Josh's phone number. Tyler's mother, being the fangirl that she was, beamed as brightly as the sun when she heard this story.
She, of course, knew Tyler was gay. That was the reason he didn't have a father. His extremely religious "dad" didn't have time to raise a "sinner" as a son. So he left them. They have never been happier. Sure, Mrs. Joseph was heartbroken at first, but she soon saw just how toxic their relationship truly was. Now Tyler could talk about all his celebrity crushes without having to worry about his father overhearing, and Kelly could ramble about how Emma Watson just looked stunning in that dress she wore once. But today, none of those people were on either of their minds as Kelly rushed Tyler up to his room, shoved his phone into him, and squealed "tell me how it goes!" Before running out again and closing the door behind her.
Finally alone in his thoughts, Tyler glanced thoughtfully at his phone. Why did Joshua take a liking to him? He thought he was average looking, with dull brown eyes and an imperfect body. Yet Josh had looked at him like he was all that mattered, like Tyler was some sort of angel. Which he definitely wasn't. He was stupid worthless, pathetic... wait. He had a task. He couldn't let these thoughts get to him on what was so far the best day of his life. Grabbing his phone off the light green bed he had thrown it on, he quickly typed in Josh's number and, before he could even think about what he was doing, pressed dial. Regret hit him like a brick, his fingers immediately going to press "end call." But before he could, he heard Josh's calming, smooth voice come through the phone. "Hello, flower. Is everything ok?" Josh asked, worry edging at his voice. Tyler blushed at the name before going to respond. "No, I just wanted to talk with you again" The younger boy giggled, silently hoping he didn't sound needy or stupid. "Of course, angel, you can talk to me whenever you want. So how was your day?" Josh asked, genuine curiosity in his voice.
Tyler smiled when he heard that, suddenly realizing he had made his first friend in a while. "It was pretty normal until I met you. Then it became magical." Tyler said, beaming. He couldn't see Josh's face, but he could hear the happiness evident in his voice when he responded. "Really, love? Well, you made my day too. I'm sorry to end this call short, trust me, I would talk to you for hours if I could, but I gotta get some work done. I'll see you tomorrow at the Café, right?" Josh asked hopefully. Tyler was a bit sad that Josh had to leave so soon, but happy that the blue haired man would be at the little café tomorrow. "Of course. I'll see you there. Bye!" Tyler said. "Goodbye, angel." Josh replied, before ending the call.
Tyler flopped down on his bed, clutching the phone close to his chest. He didn't think a few simple words could ever make him feel so happy, but that one phone call had somehow made his heart beat faster and his cheeks turn pink. Getting up and opening his door, he found Kelly waiting patiently on the floor. As soon as she saw the door open, though, she jumped up and immediately bombarded him with questions. "How was it? Was he as nice as he was before? Are you going to see him tomorrow?" Tyler answered simply. "It was incredible, mom. Just like everything else he did today. And I'm going to see him everyday for as long as I have the courage too."
